#mightyadvent #15 - #TunesThursday - Green Day
Hey there mighty people of the internet! And welcome to the day 15 of #mightyadvent! - the series that I post daily on Tumblr until Christmas discussing different themes that differ per day of the week, so you (and I) don't get too bored. And today is #TunesThursday and it's the third one already! Christmas is getting close! (And I haven't got a single present yet. Oops! Business as usual) But btt: If you're wondering what #TunesThursday means: It's that weekly post about my favorite music, my favorite artists, concerts, and so on. Today's post is about Green Day. If you have been checking my tweets regularly, you will have noticed that the #mightygoodnighttune hashtag is full of Green Day songs. Especially recently, after they released Revolution Radio. The album is just AWESOME! I mentioned in a tweet a few weeks back that within two weeks of the release I had posted 8 of the 12 songs on the album. That says very much about how much I like that album. But let's start from the beginning: I think I first discovered Green Day when a classmates played Boulevard of Broken Dreams on the guitar in class. That was when I was about 15, 16, 17. At the time I recognised the song, but had no idea what it was called and who was the artist. And I liked the song. It took a few years to actually discover Green Day. Maybe 3, 4 years ago a friend played a few Green Day songs to me - most of which I recognised as well and kinda liked, but never really did the research, who was the artist. Same story again. But when I listened to the songs with that friend, he was like: Hey, wanna take these CDs with you? And that is how I got to know three of my favorite bands. That friend handed me four albums of Rise Against and three by Billy Talent. And Green Day's Bullet In A Bible, the live album released in 2005. So obviously when I came back from that trip, I had a lot of music to go through. And to be quite honest, Green Day's music didn't spark my interest as much as Billy Talent and Rise Against. The few songs that I had heard before - American Idiot, Holiday, Basket Case, Wake Me Up When September Ends, and above mentioned Boulevard of Broken Dreams - were very cool to listen to. But overall Green Day were a little too "heavy" for my personal music taste. I wasn't quite ready for that, yet. But over the years, my music taste developed. I listened to Radio Bob - a small radio station from Hesse that my friend had introduced me to - via the internet. They play lots of rock music. Older songs along with a few new ones. But most of it is rock - and a little "heavier" rock than what I used to listen to at the time. But I quite liked the music and got more into the "heavier" songs as well. That's when I re-discovered Green Day. And the album that I had put on my computer. The more I listened to those songs, the more I liked them (and by now there are 8 songs off that album in my favorite songs playlist). I actually got to a stage when I would listen to Green Day songs all day long and just sing my lungs out trying to sing along with the lyrics open on the screen. Fast-forward a few years until summer of this year: When they announced their new album I was very excited for it and decided to give some songs a listen, before actually getting it. Pre-release they played their song Bang Bang live on American TV in some show (sorry, I don't remember which one) and I was sold! Immediately! Bang Bang could also describe my feelings for that song. It just hit home! Great lyrics, awesome music, rather easy-to-sing-along-to chorus. When they performed Revolution Radio on another show and that hit home just the same for me, it was clear for me: NEEEEEEEDDDD! So I went to my trusted electronics store with the orange logo as soon as I could and bought it. I got home, threw it into my stereo system and BOOM! It had been a long time ago that music had made me SO incredibly happy! I really liked a few songs from the first listen. I rarely have that. But these bucks are really well-spent bucks! For the next week or so I rarely listened to anything else than Revolution Radio. And when the Revolution Radio song or Bang Bang (or any other songs from the album basically) come on, I can't help but start playing the air guitar and singing along. LOVE this album! Favorite three songs of Green Day? This is such a hard question! Currently there are two Green Day songs in my all-time all-artists Top 10, but it's not really adjusted for the new songs… So, let's make it five songs? 1. Wake Me Up When September Ends - no doubt about that. This is actually my no. 1 on that all-time all-artists list! Song released on the iconic American Idiot album (2004). 2. Holiday - another song off that album. Strong criticism on war and the Bush government. 3. American Idiot - You guessed it: From American Idiot. Criticism on the media. 4. Boulevard of Broken Dreams - still. First song I knew, still around. ALSO from American Idiot. 5. Revolution Radio - of the album called the same (2016). 5. Bang Bang - another one off RR. Oh, and if you think, I can't count to 5… Reconsider? :P That's all I have to say about Green Day for now. If you're interested in more of my music taste, read the other #TunesThursday posts on Rise Against's song Make It Stop (September's children) and German band Die Toten Hosen or check out the #mightygoodnighttune on Twitter where I post one of my favorite songs every day. And I have done so every day this year. Almost done fulfilling my new year's resolution. :) Now I'm curious about you. What's your favorite song of Green Day? And what do you like better for a topic: #TunesThursday on an artist or a single song? Let me know by placing a comment, tweeting me, dming me, or what else you can think of - you know the means to get to me. And obviously you may contact me with any questions and remarks - I don't bite. I'll see you tomorrow for another double post: #FrighteningFriday and #ShoutOutSaturday. Next #TunesThursday next week.
