Go Noni Go wins the Bourbonette Oaks (G3)
Blended Citizen, half brother to last year’s Kentucky Derby runner-up Lookin at Lee, gets some well deserved thanks from jockey Kyle Frey after the Jeff Ruby Steaks (aka Spiral).
With the victory, Blended Citizen earned 20 points toward this year’s Run for the Roses, giving him a total of 22; the colt also won the El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields in February. Blood-Horse reported March 21st that he is one of 10 late Triple Crown nominations.
“We broke a little quicker and we were a lot closer than I expected, and I had to steady a bit because the outside horse closed in on us early in the race,” Frey said. “I wasn't too worried about it. I pulled out of there and waited. About the half mile pole, it seemed like the race just started to fall apart. As things opened up, I just let Jesus take the wheel. With the way he was moving, all I needed was an opening and I got it.”
Made my maiden voyage to Turfway on Saturday. Fun but cold day. It was cool to see Copperplate here win.
