I'd picked up the rental car on a sleepy Monday morning in Anchorage. It was overcast and cool. Driving back to the hotel, I put Gillian Welch on shuffle and left it on after picking up E and the kids. They were sleepy in the car, still jet lagged.
The drive out of Anchorage along the Turnagain Arm is beautiful and haunting, and I will remember that moment clearly, listening to "I Dream A Highway" stretch on and on while the mountains rose up around us. Posting to help this memory stick. E took this photo from the passenger seat.

K COUNTRY!!!!!!! I love kananaskis so much, it’s my heartland, it’s so beautiful, everyone deserves to see it at least once
all of the tiny towns and villages in southern Alberta. claresholm and nanton and diamond valley and longview and olds and high river and etc etc etc. Small town Alberta has such a beautiful vibe to it if you ignore the conservatives
nose hill. I have gotten lost on nose hill many times. It’s an amazing preserved snapshot of the original prairie landscape.
the bike paths. Calgary has the most extensive network of connected walking and biking paths in North America and oh boy do I put them to good use
spruce meadows—watching the showjumping here is so much fun, and although it’s probably not a venue I’ll ever compete at, it’s still inspiring.
aydar and zayne getting points while matvei is out sick #fascinating
much to chew on…. Much to contemplate….
