Hey, re: shanties, you might like the Pirates Royale. Bit camp coz they’re Rennies, but pretty great. (Also the Merry Wives of Windsor and the Poxy Boggards do some nice shanties when they’re not doing bawdy songs—the Boggards had a spin-off group that just did traditional music that was really nice, but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was called.)

When my ren faire was canceled earlier this year I spent the day looking up YouTube videos of my favorite acts, attempting Faire recipes, and drinking. In costume in quarantine. I feel ya.

I love how Finley asked her the same day she got it, too. I can imagine her waiting and waiting for the first rainy day to come round.

She was totally waiting for a rainy day, and had been waiting for two solid months for a rainy day.  She was actually almost home when it started raining, but she turned right around and ran for the beach.

What…what is happening? Are you getting air bubbles out or conditioning the clay or what?

i am recycling clay! i take the old (cut up into pieces on the platform), chunk it into the drum (look for the handle next to the platform) and mix it up until it's a consistency that can be used, then reverse the spin of the blades and spit it out into compressed logs.

Yes, and it can get pretty disturbing (no offense to the anon). I’m a teacher and I’ve had kids in third grade (!!!) at my school absolutely devastated because people are shipping them. Latest thing was instead of just putting other kids together in gossip or whatever, there’s the equivalent of a slam book about these ships…in 3rd grade.

That's just... not healthy. :( Those are real people.

What usually causes pitting? Is it an impurity in the glaze? (Also, that serving dish looks rad)

Pitting is usually a firing issue! If it were the glaze, it would be a lot more extreme (which I have encountered in a test glaze I tried). What I’m guessing is the glaze firing is cooling a little too quickly and the glaze isn’t getting a chance to lay back down onto the pot’s surface again. Or, and not as likely, our clay is being mixed a little bit differently and the carbon properties aren’t getting burned off in the bisque firing which is leading to an excess of gas release/more bubbles in the glaze firing. I’m tempted to ask them to see if slowing the cool down in the glaze firing first would help any, but I’m just a student and don’t have any authority.
