❛ look what i found! ❜ it was that simple message that he used to get noctis' attention. he sat, awaiting notice, & only once the prince's eyes were on him was the mystery item revealed. a fishing lure, golden with a small face & long ears–––– the shape of a carbuncle! he'd carried it carefully to its destination ( hook side out, for his own safety ) & now that he had made it, he could finally see it delivered.  ❛ i dunno if it's any good, or what it catches, but i hope it'll at least make you smile! ❜ with that, the gift was in noctis' hands, & it was an excited chirp & a wag of the carbuncle's tail that revealed his last messages. ❛ happy birthday! ❜

MEMORIES SHARED FROM DREAMS TO FIREWORKS TO FRAGMENTS OF MOMENTS HE CAN HARDLY RECALL , carbuncle finds himself at noct's side before solitude can consume him . his phone's vibrational buzz catches his attention as the creature proceeds their communication .

noctis lets out an airy chuckle as he reaches toward the gift bestowed upon him & his grin is wide as ever . ❛ whoa , check this out . . . ! ❜ elation fills his chest , excitement coursing through his veins . he examines the lure closely , impressed with its craftsmanship as he imagines just what type of new fish might be brought to the surface with its help .

placing it in the armiger alongside his llymlaen reel & tranquility rod , he reaches down , offering his hand to carbuncle , inviting him to climb atop his shoulder for a moment shared between them , yet brief .

at carbuncle's arrival, lunafreya feels a grip on her heart. a flooding of emotion sourced only from the sentiment of a dear messenger. namely, one she had not seen in a long time. loathe as she was to part with carbuncle, she knew one's duty was their pride, and carbuncle was no different. she was so very proud of him.

she is quick to kneel to his level, ignoring any baser instinct to scoop him up in her arms. to be visited by her long-lost messenger was gift enough, but to have a memento from him as well ---- today did naught but give. she could hardly contain her emotions.

carbuncle's jaw unhinges, and noses a sparse collection of flora in her direction, which she happily accepts. they're foreign blooms, those of which she had not the pleasure of seeing in person yet. thoughtful in every sense. luna takes in their scent, before taking carbuncle's paw with two of her fingers, as if he were a person.

lunafreya's connection with her messengers went beyond physical. it was an intimate connection, on either side. him being together with her .... was like being reunited with a missing piece of herself. they needn't words. he understood her conviction just as much as she, his. nevertheless, she would voice them anyway.

" thank you, carbuncle. " she kisses the top of his head, reverent and honorable, before returning his paw to him. " for all you do. your dedication, your kindness, your perseverance. i could not wish for a better companion. if you are ever in need of respite, do not hesitate to return to me. i will always welcome you. "

  naive, nearly childish eyes that saw the world like a colorful kaleidoscope, or did blind sanguinity filter and block out the very tangible bitterness? apparently, a dreamer's heart was big and warm, ample room for cotton-candy philosophy. dear carbuncle ; tell me:  how shall a decaying priestess dive into consolation with the dominance of strife, broken cathedrals; with eos’ gore decorating landscapes and auroral horizons?  how shall a prophetess romanticize the odds of a gruesome divination, be in awe of splintered god’s bones and the rot in her blood  ( plague-rot! plague-rot! ) ? nothing holy was e’er pretty; monuments were simply crystallized organs, ornaments of something lifeless that donated its corpse for picturesque painter motifs.  this divine conduction hadn’t any beauty, nor luster.   “ to do so would be macabre of me, do you not think?  i fear i am quite selective when it comes to the splendor of things. ” naturally, she proceeded in her mild harshness to disagree, even if the guilt stalked into her throat. to behold hidden grace  ‘neath in the massacres of the ash-bringers they dubbed niflheim, or the carnage of fallen heavens, was a suggestion she could not possibly actualize.  all of the puppets melted into a battlefield, the conflict that rule of fate hath forged them for.  these adornments emerged likely so embellished, thus grief may appear less like a monster, but rather seraphic. dear carbuncle; beauty came hand in hand with vulgarity.
