Just finished the live action and boy do I have highlights

(for anyone wondering i used the link from this post, there are no subtitles though)

Ray looking soo much younger than Emma and Norman?? It was so funny in the best way possible esp when he put on the deep voice to say smth dark

The set... as a whole. It was genuinely so pretty? I loved all the library shots and the forest always looked so green and vibrant and pretty

Thoma and Lanni!!!! They were my favourites!!!!! They were so fun every single time they were on screen I just. Yes. But then Thoma being not okay at all when Isabella said Norman would leave...

Gilda was so good... she looked so innocent and when she was crying after finding out the truth... yeah

Ray taking pictures of his family!!!! And then showing them off while they escaped!!!!!!

Grandma looked so pretty oh my god when women

The action part was so nice... I love how they kept Ray kicking down the door rather than Don doing it.

And then when Norman Ray and Emma were talking in the infirmary??? And Norman just?? Norman breakdown rights. That scene is living in my head rent-free. Or I guess I'm paying the rent

And then them just lying in bed........ I needed that. It was so pure. And it just felt so much more natural for Ray to open up about the memory stuff cuz they were all really vulnerable and wait I need to rewatch that scene it was literally so....... so so so... emotions. The face Ray made when Emma asked if he remembered his mom?? AHHHHAJKSDGH.

OH and when Isabella tells them Norman is leaving and Anna loses it. I loved the Anna spotlight in general and that part just broke my heart.

Norman telling Emma he'll write letters?? [checks notes] Well that's on the list of things that I really just did not need to witness. The hug??? Emma completely dying??????? Yeah. That scene was smth. The music was good too.

Not gonna lie I got really lost towards the end of Norman's conversation with Peter Ratri cuz of the big words and like what happened right there. Like first of all did he rlly just go oh yeah Minerva is dead I'm the protector of this world there's a human world actually like thats a lot- and then did Norman just choose death? I should rewatch that too.

Norman... he did so amazing.

I thought Ray was reading a Bible like damn you really meant every book in Grace Field

And then Ray and Jemima!!!! THEY KEPT IT IN I WAS SO HAPPY.

ANNA WITH A BOB!!!!! I've always wanted to see Anna with short hair down and I was so happy!! Go go live action Anna!!!!!! Literally one of my favourite parts was the amount of Anna content it made me so so happy!!!!!!!!

Like I do have my complaints!!!!! But also!! It really wasn't half bad for an anime live action adaptation!!!!! They did it better than s2 for sure and that's all I needed!!!!!!!! I think there's a whole lot of exclamation marks in this post but okay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Random Tutu thought.

Spoilers.

I don't know how well this would track if I paid closer attention to every moment Fakir writes stories, but I'm at him writing about Duck in the Lake of Despair. She doesn't know he's writing. He just starts to after not having been a part of events that led to Duck being in the lake.

Sitting back and writing a story from the outside, he doesn't have any authentic control. He wants to write what's happening to her differently, but he can't. Not until he involves himself in the story. He has to go to her himself and plant his own seeds. She is who she is and there can be a life worth living that isn't the one she grew up believing was the only path to happiness.

Later, he's writing about events he had a hand in shaping actively, in the real world. And I like this idea that we can write fiction, but if we want to meaningfully change the world around us, we have to be a part of it. Even Drosselmeyer needs his writing construct in their real world. We have to take action and show up for others and support our ideas tangibly in real life. I just really really like that idea.

This is a random ramble on "Introduction" that resulted in an epiphany, feel free to scroll by lol idk either

It just captures the whole tpn.... vibe... so well. Whenever I listen to it I just think about, like, the Paradise Hideout, and this fancy steampunk little sample of a human society they lived in---a pretty accurate sample at that---but with touches of a dream; houses children in the Human World would never live in and outfits they would never wear, a dialect they would never speak, an overall elegance and grandiosity you wouldn't expect from a town run by children. It's a bit too peaceful, too harmonic, too unnatural...

And I think of all the gadgets and maps and whatnot Norman had in his office, and the whole mystery of exploring the hideout, and Emma, Norman and Ray walking down silent corridors in the dead of night, reading before bed to a faint warm light...

And a wooden room with a few oil lamps; a candlelit library with books from different eras, maybe now it's at the shelter, spending the night awake researching and studying, Yugo and Lucas are there...

But all that is really cloudy and fragmented, like a fever dream; like it all happened so far away and so long ago that parts of it just faded away with time.

It reminds me of Grace Field, before Emma and Norman found out the secret, when they were playing tag, and they lived in a completely fake world with no idea of what was to come, and all their naive not so little dreams; a time they can't go back to, and and and

and actually I really can't describe it at all!!! I just get a weird tingly feeling every time it plays, and the second I try to take it apart and put that feeling into words it completely vanishes!!!! And it makes me want to cry!!!!!!!

Wait yeah!!! I think that's what Introduction makes me think of; all of the weird dreams Emma had, and the fragmented memories she'll never fully recover or understand, and can't exactly relive because it all happened so far away, with people and places she'll never be able to see (again). It's all lost, but buried somewhere inside of her, and sometimes those memories inevitably leak, and that leaking is what comes to mind when I listen to Introduction.

Takahiro Obata's youtube channel is a goldmine... it's so fun to listen to earlier versions of some tracks.

A good start is the Isabella's Lullaby Pf Solo:

2019 // 2021 (final)

Notice how the 2019 version was a lot "looser" (he used a lot more arpeggios rather than chords), which was a nice mimic of the plucked strings in the orchestra/voice version. The final version is pretty much all made up of chords, save for a few passages, and I think it changes the vibe quite a bit; we go from a soft, dreamy, piano solo to a pretty harsh and powerful one. Which is pretty cool since both vibes fit the story lol. I love the 2019 version a whole lot and really wanna look more into it eventually.

On another note, the Main Theme changed quite a bit:

Not only are there a whole lot more instruments in the final version but the last minute or so changed almost completely!! And the vocal solo, while the violin part stayed pretty much exactly the same, the piano part got kind of passed on to a harp which gave the voice a lot more spotlight. Although I have to say, the mandolin accompanying the voice in the 2018 version was just beautiful (and symbolic). The final version is beautiful a masterpiece oh my god i literally never ever get tired of it there's so so much to unpack really good and its so nice to see where it started and how much it changed.

There are even some differences between Evilblooded Girl's official recording and the studio live, despite being published a day apart (makes me think if the two different versions were just him being indecisive or smth /hj), mostly in the intermission. Personally I prefer the studio live's version, but just because I'm a massive fan of chromaticism (that thing the piano does that gets deeper and deeper and sounds a bit out of place), but the flute sounds amazing in the final version. Actually no I can't pick a favourite both are amazing.
