Ya know, before Beach Episode I was certain of transgender Jax, but I wasn’t sure which way. There were compelling arguments to be made for both stealth transmasc Jax and egg transfemme Jax. There was undeniable gender fuckery (maid dress and his reaction to it, his comments on masculinity that were weirdly self aware despite him giving off channer energy, etc. etc.), but the direction wasn’t clear to me.
Then, the completely girly room. The way he doesn’t let anyone inside. The way he steals keys almost religiously has started to seem less like lil shit behavior (what I thought prior) and more a desperate grab for control in case one of them might open his room. And maybe it started as that, but evolved into him just wanting any control he can get over anyone and anything because he’s so out of control himself.
Additionally, I thought that his misgendering towards Zooble was a low blow because he’s falling apart at the seams and was trying to say whatever would hurt the most in the moment to lash out. While I do think it’s partially that still, I now think it’s mainly jealousy. I think, whether Jax is actually aware that he’s coveting girlhood and/or womanhood or not (and I would argue not: I don’t think he’s aware he’s a girl), Jax 1) perceives Zooble as AFAB (regardless if this is true or not), 2) Jax wishes he was AFAB, 3) Jax is seethingly jealous of Zooble’s percieved AGAB, and 4) resents Zooble for having what he wants and throwing it away (from his perspective).
Now, that last paragraph might be me stretching it a bit, but eggy or insecure trans people lashing out at other trans people who transitioned away from their own preferred gender is not unheard of. I have seen it many times on this own website. I think my interpretation pairs well with the fact that Jax thinks he’s super self aware and has everything figured out, but he’s really, really not lol.
