IM GOING TO CRY IF TUMBLR EATS IT

“Are you interested in new technology developed in the Nether?” Karl paused, turning to the salesman who ran a stand. He slowly and cautiously approached the man who smiled.
“So, what would you like to know?” He asked, meeting the brunette's eyes. “What is it?” He asked, moving his wallet to his hoodie pocket in case someone decided to try and steal it from him.
“It’s a personal heater. It’s pretty cool, but you have to be able to supply it with lava or it’ll die.” He gasped. It could die? Oh well, he could always make a lava pool near his house, he was already fairly far from everyone else. The only others who dared to hang around him were his friends Chris and Jimmy.
Chris and Jimmy occasionally had friends around, Chandler and Nolan, and the five would then form a group everyone called ‘The Beast Squad’.
The five would combine their abilities–Chris being a magician, Chandler being the strongman, Jimmy being the one with all the supplies, Nolan being able to hypnotize by his voice, and Karl himself being able to shapeshift and occasionally control time if he felt like it–to create a bounty hunting squad that many criminals and outlaws would fear.
“Oh, that sounds interesting. How does it work?” He returned, watching their movements. “You’d just have to eat it, and it would warm you for quite some time.” That sounded interesting, and pretty useful for their planned trip to the arctic.
“So how much are you expecting for these things?” He pulled out his wallet, checking to make sure that everything was still in place, which it was. “200,000 emi, take it or leave it.”
Karl nodded, he had plenty of emi in his wallet, it was fairly easy to make at least 500,000 each bounty. “Sounds good, I have the cash right here.” He pulled out the correct amount, handing it to the seller.
“Perfect! We’ve got an expedition into the Nether tomorrow, I’ll sign you up so you can pick it out for yourself!” He smiled and nodded, making sure to write down the information they gave as they signed him up.
~~~~~~
Karl anxiously fiddled with his cloak. Today his hair was bright pink, because he felt like it.
No one else was here as the portal, where he was instructed to meet the group. Had he been scammed? Probably. But his next bounty would make up that money fairly quickly, being about 1,000,000 emi each.
He gasps as a group exits the portal. They looked worn for the weather. “Sir! Just in time!” The salesman smiled as he approached the group. “We have a fresh batch, and since you’re the first one here, you get first pick!”
Karl giggled into his sleeve as he approached them. The largest of the group held out a cage, which inside held little creatures.
Demons and Fireborns.
He felt sick.
“Well sir, which one’s your choice?”
He had to make a choice. S***.
He wanted to save all three, but he couldn’t. Illegally, there was nothing stopping him, but he needed to follow the law to avoid being hunted himself.
“The one with the bandana?” He mutters softly, and the cage was pulled back as the salesman pulled the fireborn out. He reached out carefully, fingers wrapping around the tiny with caution.
“Thanks for your business!” He nodded, turning and running away, covering the tiny with his other hand to keep the wind out of the tinies face.
“Let me go…” He gasped as the fireborn in his grasp whispered. “S***, I’m sorry… I’ll put you down, but there’s going to be a storm soon.” He says, slowly lowering the tiny down. “You can run around and find a place to hide-hey, what’s wrong?”
He felt terrible, the fireborn was laying on the ground pathetically. “Can I get you anything-oh lava, do you need some?” He asked, pulling out a bucket. The fireborn looked up at the bucket, to which Karl swiftly picked him up and slid him carefully into the scorching liquid.
He flinched as a drop got on his finger. It stung, but he could only shake it off. He promptly put his finger in his mouth, sucking on it until he pulled it out. His finger hurt.
“Thanks sir.” The fireborn was hesitant to speak, but Karl smiled none-the-less. “Please, call me Karl! What’s your name?” He asked as he carefully picked up the bucket, shifting his arms into his squishy form to hopefully avoid any more burns.
“Sapnap.” Karl only smiled. “It’s nice to meet you. Oh honk, that storm looks bad…” He trailed off before he slipped the bucket into his side bag.
“What are you doing, Mr. Karl?” He turned his attention to the fireborn swimming in the lava bucket. “No need to call me mister. I’m putting you in there so I can have my hands.” He informed, carefully covering the fireborn with the flap of his bag.
~~~~~~
He shivered, covering his eyes with his hand as he traveled through the storm. He had walked into a blizzard, and it was only going to get worse.
Upon remembering that he had a fireborn in his possession, he immediately flipped open the flap. “Sapnap?” He yelled, wondering if the fireborn could hear him.
The tiny emerged, swimming up out of the lava. “Oh s*** Karl, are you okay?” “I’m fine, promise.” He shuddered, terrible timing.
He went to close the flap before the fireborn stopped him. “Hey, you can eat me, I’ll make you warmer.” “No, that would be wrong. I’m not trying to use you, I’m trying to keep you safe.” He shouted, gasping as a tree fell in front of him. It was too cold.
The next thing he knew, he had fallen to the ground, shivering from the cold. The lava in his bucket had poured out, splashing him as well. He hurt. “Karl!” Sapnap shouted. The lava cooled, but now he was almost buried in snow. His fingers had to be blue.
He couldn’t force himself to move, he was pathetic. Something warm pressed against his lips, pushing itself inside. He shuddered before opening it only slightly. The warmth slid into his mouth, all the way to the back of his mouth, where he swallowed greedily.
The warm object seemed to only get warmer as it traveled down and filled his stomach. It warmed him to the core, and after only a few seconds he was able to move. He slowly stood up, picking up the now empty bucket. S***. “Sapnap?” He called out, hoping that maybe the fireborn would hear him.
“Karl? It’s okay, I’m here.” Something pressed against the inside of his stomach as he heard Sapnap’s voice. So close. “Where are you?” He asked softly. The thing from before pressed against him, to which he pushed back, only to gasp.
“Your-why-” “It’s much warmer here, plus it helped you. I get shelter and you get warmth. I’m much more useful here.” Karl sighed, slowly beginning to walk again.
“Thank you Sap, it means a lot. Let’s get home and then I can get you a lava pool. Would an oven help in the meantime?” He asked, thinking about his question. “What’s an oven?” Karl smiled, giggling.
“There is a lot I should show you.”
