TW Walsh - Fruitless Research

I have weird/dumb reasons for not buying records sometimes. Before this came out last year, I wasn’t really blown away by the couple of advance tracks I had heard. I supposed I expected more of the Soft Drugs / SOPAL vibe, but the tunes I heard were more synth-y with fuzzy vocals and real-drums-that-sound-like-not-real-drums and it didn’t feel like a flavor that I was totally into. Of course, when I got around to listening to David Bazan’s Bazan Monthly stuff, it was all synth-y and I really loved it, then felt kinda dumb for not giving TW’s new synth-y sound a chance. Because I love Walsh as a songwriter and it was kind of stupid of me to be “meh” on the timbres and vibe and etc without giving the songs a chance to hit me. So, in advance of his next LP coming out, which I did pre-order / fund via Kickstarter, I ordered Fruitless Research back in February. You’re hearing about this now because I’m lazy and not terribly active with this blog anymore, but also really wanna give this record its due since I end up putting it on just about every time I get to have a listening-in-the-basement session for the past two months or so.
