Can I just say that it’s pretty bleak that all of the big Texas universities have started in-person classes this week? In all of my check-ins this month, each of my students have asked me variations of whether I thought:
1. That they were going to get sick
2. That their family members were going to get sick
3. If their school would shut down/transition virtual before May (to which I’ve tried to respond honestly while minding my boundaries)
4. If the economy was stable and if they should be worried about their jobs or their family
5. If el Cheto is going to get re-elected, if I had hope for the upcoming election and if Latinx and Black communities would continue to be safe...
.... I appreciate that my students feel comfortable asking me these questions and that our trust is where it is but also, like damn, this week/this month is heavy.
So, an extra fuck you to Greg Abbott today, forever and always.
