As someone with DID, is it bad that we like the movie Split? Like, we HATE the misrepresentation, but we like the idea of the movie. Does that make any sense? And does that make us bad or part of the problem?
I suppose that makes sense. A movie can be well-made and star good actors but have an awful underlying message, after all.
In my personal opinion, it’s okay to like things that are problematic if you recognize that they are problematic and are able to speak factually outside of your preferences. This means you won’t stand up for Split or Glass, you won’t support the movies, and ideally you’d speak out against the terrible representation when it is safe for you to do so.
Do keep in mind that this is my opinion only. I don’t speak for my entire system - and I definitely don’t speak for the entire DID community.
