this video enrages me and i want to talk about it because there are tons of other videos like this pertaining to womens’ actions
(this also 100% applies to anyone who gets a period: not just women)
and if you’re a guy that wants/is going to reply and say, “but it’s a joke.” — keep your fucking mouth shut. it’s not a joke. a joke is something funny. this is not funny.
the first thing that i’m inclined to believe here is that this guy clearly hasn’t seen a woman on her period. we are not that dramatic. at all.
people (mostly men, from my knowledge) tend to stereotype us in the sense that all we do is cry on our period, eat a ton, and overreact to everything.
we don’t. not in the slightest. sure, we have days where the cramps are shitty, and we get upset when we ruin our pants or forget a tampon/pad when we go out in public (because a stranger seeing the blood is embarrassing) and even when that time of the month sneaks up a few days early. but we’re justified in those feelings. it is not justified for people to reenact what it’s like for us when they don’t know what it feels like.
my second point is that when women try to speak up on issues/videos like this, we’re instantly ignored. i read several of the comments on this video, some of which were women speaking out on how they were offended by it, and “it’s a joke” was a reply to nearly every one. i do not think women would shut down other womens’ feelings like that. (there were also tons of comments about how he definitely hasn’t met a woman (i’m assuming one on their period) before, and how the video isn’t funny)
unlike a hundred years ago, we have a voice. if we’re explaining to you how something is offensive to us, you’re going to damn well listen.
i fucking hate the stereotypes around how people (again, mostly men) think women behave. and then you always wonder why we’re insecure. this is why. because you make “jokes” that are 1) not funny, 2) disrespectful/rude, and 3) untrue.
i just needed to speak my opinion on this when i saw the video again. thank you for those who actually read it.
