I’m sapphic, and many of my friends are ace/aro. Those beautiful girls belong and have the right to mourn as much as I do.
Why are we like this? We as a community should stand together in times of tragedy, yet I’m seeing acephobic posts on my dash? Yes, someone who was presumably “cishet” (I hate saying that. I hate this site for spreading it.) joked about bringing a gun to Pride. That is unacceptable, without question. However, I’ve noticed the term “cishet” is being used to describe the ace/aro individuals who have expressed (from what I’ve heard) unpopular opinions about how they are treated at Pride events.
…Ace/aro people are NOT straight, and they are not always cisgender. Also, could we as a community make a better effort to maybe NOT USE HETEROSEXUALITY AS AN INSULT?
Gatekeeping doesn’t just stop at excluding any “otherized” orientation from the LGBTQPIA+ community. Yes, that’s my personal preference for our acronym. I don’t appreciate the visual “cut-off” presented to us in “LGBT” as it isolates so many people who don’t know where they fit on the spectrum.
Don’t tell me that questioning kids aren’t effected by that. A bunch of letters doesn’t mean anything if the people behind them aren’t open and accepting to anything different from them when they know the pain of exclusion.
My rant is done. I’m in mourning, as I said, and am sick at heart.
