1. What’s your favorite character(s) to write for? Hm, at the moment, I’ve got to go with Khan from Pathologic.  I really enjoy RPing as him because his inner monologue is so contemplative and sprawling and fun.  Other favorites include Aloth from Pillars of Eternity, Joshua from The World Ends with You, and my OC Iruka.

10. What is the line you’re proudest of from “Concrete Faith”? This is a hard toss-up between, 

“Each step he took seemed to land on glass that was already cracked, splintered so deeply inside that no one else could see the danger until everything fell out from under his feet.” 

and the line everyone keeps quoting to me in the comments:

“This wasn’t about pride; it was about control, and Daniil was desperate to feel controlled by something other than fear.”

15. What is the fanfic you’ve written that you’re most proud of? I really like “Restart.”  But I’m also very proud of Support (And Other Ways to Make Friends) because that’s the first real long story I’ve written and finished.  So...sorry, another tie here aha.

38. What story of yours are you surprised that people liked as much as they did? “Concrete Faith” lmao.  I was not at all expecting an extremely niche nonsexual kink fic in an obscure fandom to be one of my most popular stories.  I really just wrote that for myself and for you, but I think it’s probably my most popular fic aside from Support in terms of kudos:fandom size ratio.

For the micro stories prompt : 20 - alone, finally ; for TWEWY ? :D

I would just like you to know, my friend, how difficult it was to find a way to write this in a way that has no spoilers past Day 3, which you know already.  So, I didn’t.  I wrote one story that you can safely read, and then one that you probably shouldn’t under the cut.  That said, this first story still contains spoilers for The World Ends With You Day 3 and contains mentions of murder/asphyxiation.

If anyone asked (and no one would, that was the point), Neku would say that his first conscious thought upon waking up, feeling the cold metal digging into his back, not even realizing his eyes were open because of the pitch darkness, was, Alone, finally.

When he had enough wits about him to realize that he was awake but in total darkness, the first thing he thought was that it was a jail cell.  But that was stupid because the police couldn’t see him, not one of the dozens of random idiots on the street had seen anything, and the only ones who could see didn’t care (didn’t the Reapers’ wings look kind of like bars, if you squinted? he thought, a messy picture spraypainting across his eyelids).

It wasn’t messy.  His hands didn’t even touch her throat and he hadn’t squeezed, hadn’t felt her heart give under his fingers.  Just tensed a few muscles and stared at her (Please!  Don’t kill me...) with adrenaline in his veins and ice everywhere else.

His lungs were frozen, too, eyes and heart useless here.

His first conscious thought: alone, again.

Spoilery story under the cut, also mentions of death and very vague domestic abuse.

Beat heard it a lot, everywhere, all the time.  That he would amount to nothing the way he was.  That he’d die alone, finally.

A part of him wanted to storm back to his hometown (can’t leave Shibuya, game boundaries) and into his home (shitty apartment with broken pipes and people, not a home) and yell in his parents’ face that he hadn’t.  He hadn’t been alone when he died because there was someone who loved him enough to try and save him.

And all it did was get Rhyme killed, too.  Beat didn’t die alone, but he was alone in death.  Twice!  Two fucking times!

He looked over to where Neku was just waking up and swallowed hard, fixing his beanie, and all he could think was, This better be worth it.  His hand closed around a Pin (a hand) that wasn’t there anymore.

I don’t think I can fully express how excited and scared I am for the TWEWY anime and sequel.  That game is so important to me.  I love it.  It’s my favorite game of all time, and that ranks it higher than games like Mass Effect, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted (which I have a quote from in my email tagline), and Pillars of Eternity.  Not because it’s objectively a better game (it’s a 2007 DS game lol) but because it’s just.  Special to me.  And it is really, really good.

I’m so excited.  But I don’t know how to say it right.

2. A game that has influenced you creatively? Writing, drawing, etc. Is it cheating to say all of them?  I’ve played so many games, and I consumed video games as my primary form of media for a long time.  Where a lot of people can track their favorite middle school books as influences, I had games.  But I think there are three games in particular that had narratives (not necessarily strong ones lol) that influenced me in ways I still use and remember.  I played RuneScape, MapleStory, and DragonQuest IX all around the same time in elementary school, and the three types of narratives in the stories all kind of converged to help me start figuring out that character-driven stories were important to me, that I adore banter, that secondhand embarrassment was not my thing in stories, and that the villains have every right to be as interesting (and sometimes valid) as the heroes.

14. Favorite game music? I know this is dumb, but I really like the music from the Kingdom Hearts franchise.  I deeply admire Yoko Shimomura’s work, both in her incredible job arranging themes from other IPs and in her original compositions--the fact that “Twilight Town” is only 42s long and yet it never gets boring is still one of the most miraculous things about that franchise.

36. Have you ever shed actual blood, sweat or tears over a game? Blood, no.  Sweat and tears, yes.  Absolutely.  Good games make me cry, and games that are both good and bad can make me sweat if I get frustrated enough or laugh enough.

50. If you were a game designer, what masterpiece would you create? Oh, I have no idea.  I’d like to create a game that had wonderful not-male characters featured in it, one that had a narrative that was clever and fun and not needlessly dark in order to be poignant.  I would want to just create an adventure that would be fun and that would be relatable.

69. In your opinion, best game ever made? The World Ends with You.  Everyone should play it.  It’s wonderful.

70. Very first game you ever beat? Already answered!

5. Ever use cheat codes? You know, I’m like 99% sure that I did at some point, but I have no idea which games it was.

EDIT: it was Pacthesis’s dating sims.  After about 10 minutes of thought (the rest of these questions), I recalled a few of them actually.  I think there were others, but these are the ones I remember.

7. Any games you have multiple copies of? A few... I have multiple copies of Okami, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Tales of Symphonia, and both P0RTAL games.

22. Do you wear game related clothing/accessories? Frequently.  I have Legend of Zelda gear, P0RTAL gear, Kingdom Hearts gear, and lots of TWEWY stickers.

27. Game that makes you rage? Any game with parkour.  I’m bad at it.  It’s my one weakness.

35. Ever work in a game store? Or do you have a favorite game shop? Never worked in a game store (unfortunately), but my favorite game shop is Tosche Station.
