jk, nah, in all seriousness, I REALLY LIKE BOTH!!! and tbh i don’t think it is really fair to compare those two relationships because they are so vastly different. (and it’s not even a question of shipping for me really because i don’t??? particularly see either of those relationships as romantic.)
neku holds all his partnerships in high regard (albeit grudgingly for the second one) and they were all fundamental to his growth and improvement as a human being (AND I AM JUST GOING DROP A SHOUT TO MY BOY BEAT BECAUSE EVERYONE SEEMS TO FORGET ABOUT HIM!!!!! which is a crying fucking shame because they had a really great dynamic as well. just compare how they got along during the first week to the third and there is SUCH A SHIFT. even though they clash heads, neku is way more willing to be cooperative and patient than he ever was before and it leads to good things. YOU CANT WRITE PEOPLE OFF ON FIRST IMPRESSIONS AND HOW WELL YOU GET ALONG BECAUSE NOT ALWAYS GETTING ALONG IS A PART OF RELATIONSHIPS AND SOMETIMES YOU MAKE THE BEST OF FRIENDS OUT OF PEOPLE YOU CANNOT INITIALLY STAND AND THAT’S REALLY GREAT!!!!! they’re great. close parenthesis.) so like comparing them feels like you are putting them in a competition against one another and no!!! no they are all great and good and you shouldn’t be weighting them one against another!!!
but if you were to pick the one he considers most important to him it would be…. shiki. shiki without a doubt. i see a lot of people holding his relationship with josh above this because neku is much more honest during the second week and it’s like??? ONLY BECAUSE SHIKI MISAKI IS A GOLDEN HUMAN BEING WHO TORE DOWN HIS WALLS AND OPENED HIM UP TO OPENING UP!!! he is constantly reflecting on the things she does and says in his interactions with people and it’s that seed that plants in his mind and gives him the idea that hey maybe people don’t suck after all, i should give them a chance. and also let me remind you that his week with joshua brought him to such emotional, physical, and psychological strain that SHIKI WAS THE ONLY THOUGHT THAT KEPT HIM GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!! and that pretty much just settles it, doesn't it. she inspires him to be a much better person than he is and he wholeheartedly accepts her for who she is even when she has the trouble doing that and they are PALE AS FUCK, DIAMONDS FOREVER, do not underestimate me on this.

THERE IS A LOT OF WASTED POTENTIAL WITH THAT KID. i hope she comes back for the sequel (if there is every a sequel) ALSO I LOVE KARIYA A LOT????? he is really great he’s like my fourth favorite omg. he’s just so chill and he has the best lines in the game and he is also really really interesting??? like it’s implied that he’s been around for a long-ass time and he RECOGNIZES TABOO NOISE FOR WHAT IT IS and u have to wonder whether he prefers working low-rank (despite his prowess) for reasons outside of outside of being lazy. this is getting long. KARIYA IS SUPER GREAT!! and Def March!! i am extremely fond of Def March. no one can ever hope to be as metal.

THEYRE REALLY REALLY CUTE i want them to accidentally, serendipitously start living together and complain about each others’ showering habits and for uzuki to start wearing his hoodie in the morning because everyone knows sweaters are five times comfier when they are too big for you and for kariya to just sort of shrug whatever and wear her clothes because he is just too lazy to go fetch something else goD IM ACTUALLY SO VERY VERY FOND OF THEIR FRIENDSHIP theyre great theyre gonna reign terror on the streets and make the underground a better place for everyone, my favorite villain duo, im so glad theyre still kicking
worst pairing ever: idk about worst pairings haha thats pretty vehement but there are a lot of things that just make me go??? whaT??? (joshua/sho joshua/rhyme beat/konishi umm?????????)
guilty pleasure pairing: I GUESS. JOSH/NEKU TECHNICALLY COUNTS AS THIS. ONLY I AM TOO FAR GONE TO HAVE THE LIBERTY OF CALLING IT THAT SOOOOooo sho/konishi haha I DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE THIS CAME FROM, they are complete and total opposites in every respect and manner and everyone hates getting caught between the two of them and yet AND YET konishi is willing to be the conductor to his composer out of sheer self-serving strategy. the city is dissolving and if anyone has a high probability of surviving the wreckage it is a wildcard like sho. and he considers it????? even though they both well and all know that she’ll bide her time until she finds the opportunity to strike and that he could very well change his mind at any given moment. WOW, AWFUL, im invested and i hate myself.
a pairing you want to see more: PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED (EVEN THE FIRST ESPECIALLY THE FIRST EVEN THOUGH THE FIRST IS OVERLY SATURATED) just only in the overly specific way that i enjoy it„,
that pairing everyone likes but you’re like “lol no”: ummmmmm i see a lot of romantic josh/hanekoma and to say im ambivalent is putting things nicely, ha. THEY HAVE A REALLY GREAT RELATIONSHIP IN CANON GOSH but i cant really swing that way at all hhh idk they have this really great easy-going familiarity but then there’s also this edge of professionalism to things considering who and what they are. i like the idea of hanekoma being some sort of parental figure to this sad, strange kid who is convinced he doesn’t need anybody. discreetly looking out for him and making sure josh doesnt get himself into too much trouble and teetor-tottering the line between his duties and his affinity for joshua. which is prETTY MUCH WHAT ENDS UP HAPPENING, i guess, only with unexpected aspects. tl;dr I AM PRETTY ADAMANTLY GO PLATONIC OR GO HOME WHEN IT COMES TO THIS, YEAH
