GALTx eNews: Twigy Found Her Pot Of Gold!
Every hound has a perfect home somewhere in the world. Finding that home sometimes takes a long time. Other times, it happens in the wag of a tail. Twigy’s story reminds us to always have hope and to always keep looking.
GALT New Mexico worked hard to turn out a good crowd at its Great Global Greyhound Walk last June and several Greyhound enthusiasts new to the group attended. In particular, Twigy, a 13 year old deaf Greyhound, and her adoptive family got word of the walk and came out to join in. Maybe it was fate. Just a few weeks later, Twigy’s people realized they were experiencing a major life change and that Twigy couldn’t stay with them.
Knowing of GALT New Mexico from the walk, Twigy’s people contacted a volunteer about surrendering Twigy rather than putting her down. We could not turn Twigy away despite the dim prospects of finding her another home as a deaf senior. Thankfully, donors, volunteers and adopters Georgette and Graham Bulawa opened their home to Twigy to see if she could stay with them and their pack as a foster. The Bulawas had recently said goodbye to their hound, Honey Baby Girl, after a long, hard battle with cancer. Their senior hound boys, Barry and Morgan, missed their sister desperately and had not been themselves since her passing. The home felt empty.
As fate would have it, Twigy instantly hit if off with the boys and brought back a much needed spark to the family! The very day Twigy first entered the home, the Bulawas decided to adopt her. The light in Morgan’s eyes told them Twigy should stay and a double rainbow appeared over the home that evening as a sign from Honey Baby Girl that it was meant to be. Sometimes, the hounds we lose across the rainbow bridge send us back what we need to survive without them. Welcome home, Twigy.
