I've decided I'm going to, as I work on completing it, post 'The Witch In The Walls' online on sites such as Royal Road and Scribblehub (both of which will be linked later). While I edit the to be posted chapters here's the prologue. Enjoy.
--------------------Prologue-------------------
-----------------------------------Unknown-----------------------------------
Death is inevitable. This is one of the first laws of the mortal world that all mortal beings must come to face. It was ordered not by us but by their biology. Even those touched by us here must face it.
From the moment one is born they are aware that one day, somehow, they will die. No amount of fighting can prevent this. No amount of magical intervention can truly abate it only delay it. Everyone's, everything's, web of fate must end. So, why did we intervene here? Why did we stop this conclusion? Not only was one life, a life that was ours, was spared but so was another that was meant to end that we had no stake in.
The second life had never belonged to us. It was not our kin nor our child yet, of all the threads we could have pulled, why did we pull this one? It didn't make sense. Surely it would have been smarter for us to pull a stronger thread. One that wasn't mere minutes from its end-fall. One that shouldn't have ever been here in the first place. One that was more near and familiar to our little kin. But there was no better choice for our life. For our kin. Even if it was not the most convenient of choices, our kin needed someone devoted. Someone that would need them in turn just as vitally.
The threads bound together so easily, so fluidly, as if they were meant to weave together. Both lives may as well have been ours to begin with. They were now. Both lives merged to one thread, tethered together to their mutual future whatever that may be. One could not be without the other and they would never be. Both webs, both fates, were now one. There was only one possibility and we ensured they were on it together until its completion. None could separate them, even us, now.
Now we must rest. Rest with ourselves and our judgments to pray that our kin was ready to be born into our world with another life alongside them. A life they did not know existed until this very moment.
Name your characters stupid shit
