It's absolutely wild that the dnd webcomic The Order of the Stick has been running for 2 decades and we still don't know what the Monster in the Darkness is.
To those unaware the main antagonist of the comic, Xykon, has a Monster he keeps hidden in darkness that he plans to unleash on the heros in the final battle. He got close to revealing the monster one time but was interrupted by getting exploded (he got better).
There are a lot of little clues but the main thing is that they are unthinkably powerful and they are not really aware of it. For example, this is the first display of what they are capable of:
I need to clarify something, I think the fact that we still don't know is awesome. With every passing year it gets funnier. Rich Burlew is displaying a superhuman level of patience and commitment in not revealing its identity too early. A lot of authors wish they had the balls to commit to a bit for this long.
