Two Reverse ⭂

When the COVID-19 pandemic threw everyone’s plans out the window, including Big Thief’s planned European tour, the band’s front woman Adrianne Lenker literally took to the woods. She rented a one-room cabin in Western Massachusetts to be close to her sister and then set about writing songs of isolation, contemplation and quiet desperation. 

The result is an emotional, stripped-down album simply titled Songs that documents Lenker’s grief, loneliness and devastation. The album’s lead track, Two Reverse, is at once a song about heartbreak (”Is it a crime to say I still need you?”) and acceptance (”To my home, two rivers/Through my home, two reverse”).
