TW: BLOOD, ABUSE, AND VIOLENCE
“It can’t just sit in that room the whole rest of the time we have it,” the human growled at the Zoroark beside him.
He lowered his ears. Captain knew that the mewtwo was still simply struggling to stand from the pain, not that the human cared so he offered, “There’s no way she can fight a strong opponent as is-“
“Get anything! But I am not losing this opportunity, there’s only three weeks left of the two months we had. I am not wasting it further,” he snapped at the Pokémon, “Get out.”
Captain nodded and headed out. He just had to make sure she got home alive, that was it. He’s done that. Now to get a week of battles set up…
•••
Annie whimpered and pushed her energy back into a reflect again as the rattata tried another attack. She curled up tight just holding that soft glowing move to try and keep safe.
Another attack. She huffs as it was getting hard to keep up her reflect. Her muscles shaking getting worse as she couldn’t concentrate on trying to lessen it. A crack sounded as the reflect failed and she cried at the claws scraping her shoulder dangerously close to the wrappings covering her still tender back.
A whistle makes the rattata back off as Annie didn’t move, frozen from pain and fear.
Captain stepped back into the arena after a minute and glared at her. “Tch, what a failure…”
Annie sniffles and got up, wincing at her back hurting and started to float so the weight on her feet didn’t bother her hurting spine. She hugged her own hands against herself to stop the shaking and followed the Zoroark out and back to the room.
At least she could return to reading. The hero was just getting to a dark forest and she wanted to see how they would handle it…
•••
She was shivering. The motion involuntary as she cried and covered her head at the pigeoto diving down. It scrapped her hands as she gripped her horns, Annie gritting her teeth at the pain. It wasn’t that much damage but her already tingling hands seemed to magnify the tiny scratches.
The bird screeched and made another dive.
The human up in the tinted observation level growled to himself. Nothing, “These pokemon are too weak!”
Captain just idly informed the human, “She’s still too weak, the nurse said it’s not closed-“
“I don’t care! Get out the stronger Pokémon,” he snapped.
“…of course…” Captain left the human and went to get Annie back to Rue’s room…

The smeargle was careful to only aim where there wasn’t wraps but was getting obviously frustrated.
She refused. Just trying to throw up reflect again but it failed from her fatigue.
Another iron tail landed, this time hitting her low on the legs. Annie squeaked and her footing failed next from a spike of pain.
She sobbed into the hard flooring. Everything hurt so much… so much. Anything that went up her spines seemed to sear hot and painful even if it wasn’t hitting her back…
The smeargle blinked and looked up worried. At the signal to stop it stepped back. It actually felt bad for the crying pokemon…
Annie kept crying even as Captain told her to get up. She shook rather violently as she struggled to get just to her knees so she could try and float. A few feet to follow and she collapsed. She blinked at the swirling reds and blues of the Captain before blacking out…
•••
She floated into the area an again three days later. Annie huffed at her own shaking. Tired of these. She was barely recovered from the faint before.
The purple Pokémon ahead of her gave a smirk with its large mouth. A loudred more than happy to fight today.
It dashed for her with a glowing hand. Annie just tried to curl up and only show her thighs by floating a bit higher as that hurt the least but the electricity went up her spine hurt. It didn’t relent, opening its mouth to let out a harsh sound. She gripped her head and screamed at the extra pain in her skull.
A hit to the gut sent her skidding to the ground.
Annie panted, on the verge of hyperventilating from the burning electricity tearing through her back and neck from the scrapes she got on her arm and leg she slid on, “S-stop….” She whimpered through the white hot of it all, “Stop.”
That smirk again, “No.”
Another focus punch and she hit the wall to slide down and collapse once more…
Captain flattened his ears, eyeing the human that refused to let him call it off. He was worried they were going to kill her with how reckless they were getting with these fights. Sure he’d set it up but… they should have stopped before this…
The Zoroark hurried down to help the nurse get Annie on a stretcher…
•••
Only twelve days left now. Not that Annie knew that. She blinked, tired, not caring how her hands trembled from the nerve damage. The three headed Pokémon staring her down.
She was so tired of the pain. Of the hot white taking over her vision. Of that burning electricity taking over her spine and necks…
They started out strong, sending out a burst of dragon rage.
Time slowed as it approached. She started to prepare reflect but… she’d been so weak it was failing so often.
No. She can’t reflect everything. Her reflect wasn’t even sending anything back when it did work…
Her tail glowed and with a hard swing it sent the purple flames into a wall.
The heidragon roared and started to throw more long range attacks at her.
Annie growled and glowed her tail to hit them. One after the other after the other. Getting the redirected attacks closer and closer to her enemy. It was a rather strong one that caught her off guard and she screamed at it searing into her fur as she launched it back at them.
The dragon type dodged and flew in with glowing fangs.
Annie panicked. All she could think was the first pain before and with a glow of her tail sent it at them. She screamed again as the energy still burned even as the hiedragon was sent to the floor.
A whole section was burned showing muscle from all the hits concentrated there. She trembled, whole body starting to feel light…
Captain watched her hit the ground again. The human beside him laughing happily…
She finally fought back….

Banny stepped into the room. He looked back out to check the halls and then back at Annie as he shut the door, “So what chapter were you on?”
She gave a weak smile, “…thirteen… just meeting a troll…” The new wrappings on her tail and the pain keeping her vision so spotty made reading impossible… but at least she had the story still.
He nodded and hopped up to sit on the open spot on the bed to open the book, “Alright, here we are… ‘The troll gave out a bellowing cry at the hero, ‘You’ll never cross my bridge to reach the Arceus Tree, not unless you can answer my riddles three!’…”
Runty grunted and rubbed her skull, the empty divot hot and getting hotter. That sensation was new… the vague blue cloud tries to form in the darkness but she had to stopped and blink her eye and rub the spot harder, “Red?”
“You did it!” Rue smiled.
“Are you sure?” She doubted it, they’d been practicing this on and off for a couple days. Between her own errands or tasks she did for the nice researchers and playing puzzles or going outside to the fields.
The pinkish mewtwo beamed, “Yeah! You said the right color, it’s red! That’s my aura!”
Runty smiled a bit at the reassurance, “Oh! Then, maybe l…” she closed her eyes to try again.
The black started to warm up again, that foggy cloud started to form and shift to red ever slowly. She rubbed the hot eye socket. A little more…
There. It was the silhouette of her new friend, it was whitish and the red clouds were spilling out of her from her power and especially from a single spot inside her… “Woah, it’s… it’s really working! What’s that though?” She vaguely pointed her hand at Rue where the dense spot was and then looked to her yellow-white aura. It wasn’t very bright but it was pretty, like sunshine.
“What’s what?” She tries to look down but whatever Runty saw was too deep for her to see.
She smiled a bit as it got clearer, “It’s… a ball of pure energy. Is that like an aura heart maybe?”
Rue blinked and looked at Runty, that didn’t sound right, “I’m not sure. I’ve overheard the scientists talk of lots of things. Training, battle levels, mega evolution, and growing things. So… no telling.”
“Well, it’s really cool. Thanks for sharing this. It’s going to really help,” Runty smiled and giggled, “And I have to say, I do like being yellow…”
The nurse patted the medication on the tender barely closed wounds, “If it wasn’t so dangerous we would see it closed. But on your neck and back it’s too close to your nerves… some are even exposed here on your neck.” She said it bored just wanting the Pokémon out of her head.
“Ah!” Annie flinched involuntarily at one touch. Her arms and hands hadn’t stopped shaking at any point she was awake, “N-nothing?”
“Nothing more to do,” she said curtly starting to replace the wraps.
Her back jerked and tears welled up at the searing pain going up her spine and both necks at the touches again. The medications only made it bearable enough she hadn’t passed out again. Annie just let herself cry at the feelings while the nurse gave her no mind and finished up to leave.
The door slid closed and Annie huffed as the pain finally was dying down. The mewtwo managing to carefully lay down as her muscles shook despite all her efforts.
In the hall Banny frowned to himself but wandered off….
Another trip to the yarrow field. They’d gotten to come here several days in a row so far. The human watching them stayed at a distance but alert…
Rue picks a few more flowers to make a flower necklace how Runty showed her with the flower crown, “Seems everyone is taking things pretty rough huh?”
The smaller two sighs with a small swish of her tail in the flowers, “Yeah. They’re just worried. He’s… never really been strong… or awake. I’ve never even heard anything from him…”
Rue frowned a bit looking up from her picking, “Really? But he’s like, still your brother right?”
“Mhm… there’s no happy answer,” Runty looked away from her and too the flowers, “But, that’s just something I have to trust the humans with. They know how to take care of us, we aren’t healthy mewtwo. Especially not him or me.”
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong or unhealthy about you. Not having a few things isn’t unhealthy it’s just life…” she smiled to her.
Runty shook her head, looking back up to Rue she clarified, “Oh no, not that kind of unhealthy. I was born much too early from a mistake in development, so I’m not developed right, my leg, arm… eye… and psychic are all from being runty. Hence my name.”
“That shouldn’t matter. You’re cool just being you…” Rue’s face lit up at an idea, “Hey! I know a trick to see better woth only one eye. Why don’t I show you that?”
Runty smiled a bit as she felt a bit better, “Thanks… and that sounds fun. How’s it go?”
Rue scooted closer with a beaming smile, “Okay, so have you ever heard of aura?…”

Sage groaned to herself. Blinking as she tried to get herself back.
That was….
Yawn.
She scrunched up her nose at how wierd everything felt from the forced sleep. She wasn’t curled up like she liked and….
She was in the time out bubble.
She growls deep in her chest. The bubble. What did she do wrong? All she could tell was something was wrong with One and she was upset but she didn’t know what she did wrong.
Hot tears formed in her eyes, rearing back and striking her tail at the bubble in an angry thump to get out her emotions.
They never told her what she did wrong! They didn’t fix what was wrong. Just put her away in time out.
Sage glanced up. She could see through the light burgundy bubble and the white fizzling of the barrier that made up the whole wall by the hall.
There’s Rue.
Her smallest older sister, with some stranger.
That hit something wrong.
Some stranger was here. One is hurt and they brought some stranger here. Her psychic started to rub up against the bubble as the thought circled in her head over and over again in a mockery of an echo.
Bad.
Bad.
BAD.
BAD.
BAD.
BAD.
She could only watch them turn to her as she was just trying to let out her emotions. It was so wrong and bad.
Rue’s chair disappear from view… thumping her tail as Sage saw Donor enter, drawing closer, the unnatural bad tired feeling creeping up her neck and pulling at her eyelids.
No! She didn’t want to sleep! She wanted One and for the Stranger to leave!
She struggled to fight against the tugging of her eye lids, feeling the world sway and tug the harder she resisted.
One blink, and Sage lost the fight.
•••
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry…” Donor was shaking, sinking into Rue's shoulder.
Tears slipped down her her fur, burning something fierce amongst the emptiness in her chest. She felt so powerless to help Sage, unable to figure out what had set her off. It was nothing like her own and she couldn’t ever seem to get through to her second youngest during those…
“What happened?” Donor could feel rounded digits brushing into her fur, could hear the frown on Rue's muzzle.
Still, she couldn’t bring herself to explain, sniffling loudly and burying herself into Rue.
“It’s… One." Runty sighed, eliciting Rue's attention. "The humans don’t know what’s wrong but Sage felt it really early. There is something wrong but their efforts are bringing up nothing so far-“
“He’s dying…” The smallest voice finally came up from Donor between her tears.
The room fell silent, the prior feeling of foreboding suddenly changing to dread.
“D-dying???" Runty breathe stuttered, eyes drawn to Donor's shaking form. "It… it can’t be that bad can it?”
There was no answer, other than loud sniffles and low keening sobs.
Runty glanced at Rue instead, the more hardened mewtwo had gone slightly pale at the thought. The other two noticed her quickly, shaking her head, eyes screwing shut for a moment before she looked away.
“I-I’m sorry… I…” Rue glanced at Donor, softly tugging the small Mew into a tight hug, unwilling to look back at Runty. "Arceus, I... I'm so sorry."
Still, Rue's tail wrapped firmly around Runty's wrist, a small hug amongst the sudden dulling pain around them.
Donor hugged her back, Runty placing a palm against the tail, a white knucked grip, desperate for a form of comfort.
“It’ll be okay…" Runty breathed, refusing to look away. "Surely it’ll be okay… they have so much technology they can help him…"
The room was still Tense, enough for her facade to crack, voice crackling in fear.
"I hope they can help him…”
Warning for slight flashing gif.
Well… at least she’s learned to read?… Couldn’t do that before…

???: “It’s very nice this time of year. The yarrow and many other flowers are blooming… those are Sage’s favorites.”
Rue: Huh. Sage? That’s a neat name. Speaking of, I’m Rue. What’s your name?
Rue Runty: “Really? Oh haha, that’s what I’m called too. But my full name is Runty. It’s pleasant to meet you. Do you like it here so far?”
Rue: Yeah, the room has nice toys and this really soft pillow is my favorite. Plus everyone is so oddly nice?
Runty: “Yeah, everyone here is. But I hear thinks called ‘bosses’ can be mean but no one here has ever been mean to me. Not really. And they won’t be to you either. I do hope Annie is doing okay just like you.”
Rue: … …yeah…
