Two-For-One || Dare Self-Para

Location: Washington Park, near Pittock Mansion Triggers: N/A Notes: Em’s finally getting her dares done

The mood definitely was different than most of her secret shows. Though part of it came from the fact that she was head to toe in her husband’s clothes (though she still had to make it fashion, nobody in the dare said she had to wear them like Dante would) and part of it was the fact that she didn’t have the band with her.  And part of it came because it hadn’t been blasted to her insider list.  It didn’t make sense to do it, not with the nature of the second dare that she had.  So instead she just set herself up. Guitar in hand, case open, and a sign that clearly stated that all donations would be going to The Trevor Project. 

She had gotten a permit (which she knew probably wasn’t the intent of the dare, but if she was doing something for charity, Emerald wanted to make sure that she’d truly be out long enough to get money for them) and as she started playing, it was strange - nobody noticed her at first. She was used to being noticed, though a few people still dropped money in her case as she sang a couple of acoustic old rock ballads on her guitar.  

That was until someone noticed her. 

The fan couldn’t have been more than 16, and just kept staring, as Emerald gave her a wink.  Soon enough she whispered to someone, and Em switched over to her own repertoire of music.  Eventually a small crowd formed, some skeptical over who she was (and what she was wearing), some enjoying the music.  And when she finished and took a drink of water there was a small scattering of applause and quite a few tips that were given. 

It continued for a few hours, sometimes people recognized who she was, sometimes they didn’t.  Sometimes she was singing her own songs, sometimes she was singing the classics. And as the news spread over the course of the day, the crowds got larger and larger, to the point that even with her permit she knew that she’d have to go just so that people could get through the park. With one last number, Emerald thanked everyone for coming out, then put the guitar away and pushed back through the crowd. 

She didn’t want to admit it, but she’d had a lot of fun with it, and she’d raised what seemed like a decent amount of money (though Emerald would have to count it up later so that she could secretly match it) and decided that she might want to try it again. 

Though next time, she definitely wanted to do it in her own clothes.

Make Up Monday

I was supposed to give y’all a snippet last night-- a Billy Russo snippet to be specific. But I ended up sick in bed and then realized upon deciding upon a snippet to share, I’m on the cusp of having one for Billy, but not quite there. Because of my bailing out (stomach cramps are relentless and volatile) I’m going to make up for it by way of a snippet of Ryan and a bonus Benjamin. 

Ryan Brenner:

He smiled, one of those crooked, small quirks of his lips that he tended to lean toward when he was feeling shy. But it didn’t keep him from answering, and truthfully.

“Just keepin’ myself occupied on trains.  Some’a those rides are long and I use the time to practice, to play.” He flexed his fingers, and you looked down to see the ink decorating his knuckles. That was another story you’d love to hear, what those tattoos meant to him, what they stood for. “I found a melody I liked, kept playin’ around with it, the tuning, the speed, the pickin’. It was a while before the words came. My old notebook is more scratched through words than anythin’ else.”

Bonus (albeit vague) Benjamin Greene:

Sitting back on your heels, you blew a wayward lock of hair out of your forehead, brushed your palms together, and whined as you caught a glimpse of your finger beds caked with dirt. You’d remembered every single thing you and Benjamin could possibly need to plant your little starter garden, the very one he’d decided one Sunday afternoon he had to cultivate , nurture, and grow. It was only when you got home after your venture out, changed into more casual clothing that you didn’t mind getting dirty or grass-stained, and had started the project at hand when you realized there was one thing you’d forgotten-- gardening gloves.

Two for One!

Since I missed yesterday because I am a forgetful little thing, I'll make it up to everyone by making today's post about two egg groups instead of just one!

First up; the Fairy egg group!

This egg group was a categorization long before the Fairy type was discovered, and as it turns out, most of the Pokémon in this category were actually fairy types! Wow. This category has 50 Pokémon in it, and the majority are also in other egg groups, so breeding Fairy egg group Pokémon is pretty easy!

Nearly every Pokémon in this category is small, round, and pink. Which I think is just the best. Even when fully evolved, Fairy category Pokémon are much smaller than other fully evolved species. Additionally, there is a prominent amount of Female-Only evolution lines in the Fairy category.

One Pokémon line that stands out in the Fairy category is the Snorunt line, who are in both the Fairy and Mineral categories. These Ice-type Pokémon aren't exactly known for being small and pink (but still kinda round), but rather semi-terrifying with the ability to freeze and eat prey. Froslass lures hiking men to their death, or so they say. So that's spooky. But, I guess it's just a Fairy Tale afterall.

Next up; Grass!

This egg group is made up almost entirely of Grass-type Pokémon, with only one exception. Because the entirety of this egg group is made up of various plant-like or fungi-like Pokémon, the general characteristics of this category can be used for nearly each individual Pokémon. In this group, there are 67 Pokémon, and just over half have another egg group, so breeding is a piece of cake!

Most Pokémon within the Grass categorization resemble plants of various shapes and sizes. Big, broad leaves, photosynthesis, herbivorous, green hides, and most Grass category Pokémon are bipedal (meaning they walk on two feet instead of four)! Although, just like plants, Grass category Pokémon have a great deal of variety. Some are yellow, some are pink, some are white. It's incredible, really.

Now, while Fungi aren't even closely related to plants, we consider them to be in the Grass category anyways, because even though science says otherwise, they might as well just be plants. Just like normal mushrooms, Fungi Pokémon also spread spores through the air, using these spores to hunt or to reproduce. In Paras's case, it's to mind-control. Yikes.

The lone exception to the Grass Category, Grass Typing rule is the Fairy type, Comfey. Comfey is only in the Grass category, and not the Fairy one. Not grass type, but fairy type. Not fairy category, but grass category. It's - It's confusing.

Part One: ASL Discussion with Frisk

“We shall have to discuss this properly, but in exchange for magic, we can probably promise to supply you with basic protection and rights,” one of the State Leaders was telling Asgore as the two of them busily chatted about integrating monsterkind in with humanity. Frisk knew humanity had suffered a lot recently, with plague, failing crops, and rebellions. The chance to fix some things up using magic wasn’t something they would want to miss out on.

Meanwhile Papyrus was gazing at Frisk curiously. “HUMAN…I CAN’T HELP BUT NOTICE THAT THIS HUMAN DOES NOT TAKE PAUSES WHILE SPEAKING.”

Frisk was a bit surprised. “Yeah,” they said. “I have–a stutt–er.”

“OH! THAT–REALLY EXPLAINS EVERYTHING!” put in Papyrus, looking a tad embarrassed.

“Huh. You were so quiet, I never really noticed,” commented Undyne.

Toriel smiled down at Frisk. “My child, do you know sign language?”

Frisk frowned and shook their head. “I always–wanted–to learn–but I–never found–any–one–who–could teach–me.”

“Human sign language may have changed since I found that book in Waterfall, and I’m sure monster sign, which originated from human sign, will have developed some accent differences…” Toriel began speculating, sounding like an excited teacher taking on a new project.

“Accents?” asked Frisk, curious.

“Yes! Different places have many differents sign language  accents and accessories. Quite charming, is it not?” Toriel grinned. “Sign language is also much like a different language. There is a difference in sentence structures to English. Did you know, when referring to an event that happened, you will use the front of your body as a timeline? If you put your hand close to you, it happened in the past. Far in front of you, will happen in the future. And in the middle, something that is happening.”

“Wow–! I–didn’t–know that–sign was–so diff–erent!” This was interesting.

“Human sign?” Alphys had been listening to this conversation with interest. “Maybe I could learn!”

“You know what?! LET’S ALL LEARN!” shouted Undyne excitedly. “Frisk freaking freed our civilization! (While we were all trying to kill them.) The least we could do is learn sign so they aren’t constantly struggling to make a single SENTENCE!”

Frisk hopped up and down. “Yes yes–yes yes–yes yes–YES!”

“SANS?” put in Papyrus.

Sans was watching Frisk’s fun with amusement.

“DO NOT BE A LAZYBONES! YOU HAVE TO LEARN WITH US! IT WILL BE FUN!!! BESIDES…IF YOU WILL NOT, YOU KNOW I CAN PICK YOU UP AND CARRY YOU TO LESSONS! NYEH HEH HEH!!!”

“sure,” agreed Sans easily. “i’ll learn it.” He winked at Frisk. Frisk gave him fingers-guns in return.

“Is that human sign?” asked Toriel, forgetting that Frisk couldn’t sign in her sudden distress. “Oh dear, I must be further behind than I thought…”

“No,” stated Frisk while the entire group erupted with laughter. Except Asgore, who looked over curiously and, when Undyne explained the situation, seemed just as confused as Toriel.

Part Two: Crutch-User Chara

Asriel glanced at Frisk, who seemed unconcerned, swinging their legs back and forth. It was all fine for them, thought Asriel. They had raised the dead before–him. But humans seemed so much more complicated than monsters. Chara had fallen to the ground, legs unable to support them, briefly after getting their body back.

A nurse hurried down the hall and approached the siblings. “Are you Frisk and Asriel Dreemurr?”

“Yes!” exclaimed Asriel, jumping up with an energy that surprised even himself. “Is Chara okay?”

The nurse smiled. “She–whoops, they are fine. However, their legs get worn out very easily. They’ll be using either crutches or a wheelchair most of the time.”

Asriel nodded, anxiety pricking his heart for his best friend. Chara had always loved gymnastics, and pulling off stunts of physical derring-do. Would Chara be upset they couldn’t move anymore?

“Would you like to visit them, children?”

“YES!” gasped Asriel instantly, as Frisk nodded excitedly.

“All right, I can take you to their room.” The nurse took Asriel and Frisk’s hands and companionably walked them down the hall, in the elevator (letting Frisk press the button), and down another hall and did these halls ever end? Asriel wasn’t usually an impatient person, but he really wanted to get to Chara, soon.

The nurse knocked. “Come in!” called Asgore.

Asriel tapped his foot while the nurse spent what was only a few seconds that felt like hours searching her keychain for the correct key before unlocking and opening the door. Frisk and Asriel burst in. 

Chara glanced at them. “Hi guyssss!” they shouted enthusiastically. They didn’t seem particularly put off by their crutches, and were swinging themself around the hospital room at an alarming rate, dodging furniture by a hair's breadth and always one step ahead from Asgore, who was trying to catch them. 

“Chara, please stop!” begged Asgore. “You’re too fast for me to catch and I fought in a war!”

Chara cackled as they swung themself around the hospital table and got knocked over.

Asgore squealed and situated Chara back up on their crutches. Chara wasn’t put off by the failure and went right back to running.

“No more!” ordered Toriel in her firm voice, so Chara rolled their eyes, stopped, and then grinned at Asriel and Frisk. “Frisk! Azzy! Look at these things! I think I might be moving even faster than before I got them!”

Frisk clapped their hands in enthusiasm. “Cool!” commented Asriel as Chara started running again.

Toriel and Asgore cornered Chara while Toriel picked the human child up and said “When I said no more of that, I meant it.” But she was smiling so hard. Everyone could tell she was ecstatic at Chara’s return.

Asriel found himself giggling. He had forgotten how…fun Chara was. Humorous, zealous, energized, and so full of life. As a flower, he had forgotten all that and idolized Chara, erasing their real self. Chara hadn’t been Chara, Chara had been the voice inside of Asriel’s head he used to judge himself. And of course he would have to sit Chara down and make sure they knew that murder was bad, manipulation was bad, but…

Asriel smiled as Toriel and Chara started exchanging leg puns. This was a good day.
