Task oo8–Character Development Meme, week 4
How does your character define ‘family’? Family is something that, for a long time, hasn’t had a very picturesque or ideal image for Amber. They have relationships with their parents (albiet toxic &/or nearly non-existent ones) and they’re very close to their brother. Their chosen family has been a few close friends--people whose company they enjoy and who also enjoy theirs, and also love and support them (and vice versa)--and their more recent family has included their husband and stepdaughter.
Does your character forgive easily for transgressions, intentional or accidental? Not necessarily. She’s a bit of a grudge holder when something’s intentionally done to her, although oddly enough she’s been unusually forgiving towards her parents for theirs. If it’s something accidental, she’s more inclined to be more forgiving, however.
What’s the best way to keep a friendship with your character? Be yourself, be honest, and reciprocate what’s given to you in said friendship.
Does your character have a lot of friends or few friends? Amber has a lot of friends. Only a few are closer to them than most of the others but they consider a lot of people to be friends of theirs.
Who are your character’s closest friends? Along with their brother, they consider themself close friends with 2 childhood friends, 1 good friend from high school, a couple of friends made from early temp jobs, and Emmy ( @emmy-becker ).
What’s one short term goal they have for themselves now? Although the results would be long-term, she’s close to finishing successfully training Han. She’s still working on the ‘stay’/‘wait’ command.
What do they do when they fail at something they meant to succeed at? She’s a lot harder on herself than she lets on. Outwardly, she’ll pretend to brush it off and be okay, but she tends to dwell on her failures and things that she’s been made to feel like are shortcomings.
It’s your character’s birthday! From the moment they wake up to the time they go to bed, what are they doing to celebrate? Amber loves celebrating their birthday and usually makes a day of it, whether it’s doing a series of events or having one big celebration. The whole day is their day in their eyes.
Who is a celebrity (living or dead) that they would like to meet? Lady Gaga &/or RuPaul.
Your character just won tickets to see their favorite band/artist (living or dead). Who are they going to see? Probably Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, or Paramore.
Do they watch/go to the movies often? Yes, mostly watching movies on their own time but they love getting together with friends and going to the movies, especially when it’s a big blockbuster film.
Do they enjoy reading books? Not so much for leisure but they enjoyed some of the assigned reading when they were in school.
Is it easy for them to become involved with someone (friendship or otherwise)? Yes, Amber’s incredibly outgoing, friendly and extroverted.
What qualities do they like in others? People who are kind, charitable, intelligent, open-minded, fun-loving, understanding, trusting, and caring.
What in others turns them off? Aside from the common turn-offs (bad hygiene, -phobic & bigoted views, etc.) dry/unamused personalities, fast and uncalled for judgement & ridicule of others, incessant one-tracked minds, and being condescended to.
Do they like to be romanced? Would they consider themselves a romantic person? Do they try to be? Amber loves to be romanced and does consider themself to be a romantic person--possessing a romantic soul and trying to be romantic towards significant others when it a relationship.
Do they like nicknames or pet names/have special names for themselves or whomever they’re with? They’ve liked pet names being used especially from significant others, and they’ve sometimes used them on others, including whomever they’ve been linked to.
Do they get jealous easily? Do they have insecurities for themselves when it comes to relationships? Amber hasn’t been in a ton of past relationships; she hasn’t learned yet that she does get jealous and possessive easily, which absolutely does come from insecurities when it comes to relationships--sometimes even with friendships.
What is their favorite intimate gesture (hugging, hand-holding, playing footsie, cuddling, pecks on the lips, making out, foreplay, sex, etc.)? Cuddling and sex are her favorites.
What is the most special thing someone else (who is not family) has done for your character? One year, a few of their friends threw them a surprise birthday party at the roller rink (one of their favorite summertime spots)
