Absent Minded Space Child Production Bible.
AFFECTION - final
This is as faras I have gotten with my stop motion film. Everything is filmed, I just need to finish editing which is why I’ve included the animatic at the end portion. Unofrtunately its taking a little longer than I had anticipated, but I’m making great progress and overcoming problems quickly, so I’m very happy. I love what I have so far too :D
250 Word Reflection - Two Minute Film
I don’t think I’ve ever been nervous and excited about a project before. The two-minute film production was probably one of the toughest points for me as an animation student so far. I was so committed to and engrossed in this project that I let a lot of other projects be brushed under the carpet. I was in the university everyday for at least two months chipping away at my stop motion and it has been the most physically and mentally draining yet rewarding experience.
Preparing my own props and character and organising sets has set something alive in my creative soul…a flame of excitement around animation and its possibilities has come back into my life and I think its amazing. I never knew I enjoyed making things so much until this project whether that be woodworking for the sets and heads, wigs, clothing and more I had the best time. Filming was difficult as I had no prior knowledge of how to use a camera or the Dragon Frame software, but once I got to grips with it, I was in my element. I really enjoyed utilising lighting to bring new levels of depth to my scenes also.
The most difficult part so far has probably been sticking to schedule as well as getting used to editing out my rig!! I had no idea how difficult it could be to edit out a rig if you don’t prepare for it properly beforehand – this is clearly an error on my part, but now I’ m aware of it I can make considerations about it for the future which makes it an experience I cherish. Whilst I’m not entirely done with the film, I am so proud to see the form it’s taken and I’m more than excited to complete it and see all of my hard work come to fruition.
Filming woes
Here is a collection of images showing the ultimate struggle - filming the stop motion! There’s me running around tho get extra props like the potted plant which was part of a REAL TREE as well as me sticking a pencil in my character’s eye to try and get it to look a certain way :D
There’s also some shots from inside of Dragon Fram (stop motion software) showing the super useful dope sheet and what the characters look like to me on screen whilst I’m filming with the camera.
Character woes
Some images just showing my work on my characters in terms of sculpting their heads from balsa wood and attaching the felt for their skin. Also just showing how I did their hair using wool yarn and dressed them in clothing using the glue gun (because my first attempt at sowing failed me and the dress ripped) and then posing them in the set to see how epic they look - epicness rating 9/10 :D
One problem I did find when filming however was that my wife character’s many layers of bandage to give her a slightly more pudgy midsection actually made her more difficult to bend. So, in future I will be wary of the ways I cover areas I want to be more dynamic and malleable.
This is some audio I recorded for use in my teo minute film! It includes a tv interview/talk show for my first scene and it was a lot of fun to record.
Animatic V2
This is my most recent animatic for my two minute film! A few changes just to make it more sensical and concise.
I’m also thinking about how I want to design clothing so I took some spare clothing that was harvested from the fashion department upstairs and have begun creating an outline for my character’s clothing…I’m excited. I need to get a sewing needles and then hopefully I can make this work.
