Farewell, 'Punkin' Donuts'

For years, the Dunkin' Donuts at Clark and Belmont was a favored hangout for punk kids. Now it's being torn down.

“I love the Smiths.” I said.  “What?” The girl said looking confused. “That’s a really cool patch.” I said pointing to her bag. “Oh yeah? Terrific! Another dude who wants to hit on me!” She snapped. “What? No no. I just wanted to let you know that you have really cool taste.” I said. “ Oh...thanks. I guess” She said.

The clerk rolled her eyes and came around the counter. “Follow me young one. You need a lesson in what’s a classic. The Top sucks major dick! And I’m a Cure fan!” She said. “Well, tell me what is then.” I said. She pulled out three of their records and gave me a quick review. “Seventeen seconds, Faith, Pornography. These are the Cure records you need in your collection. Maybe you can teach your girlfriend something .” She exclaimed. “Ok. She probably could use a lesson in taste.” I said. She looked up at me and laughed.
