Following my latest fic, several people came out to tell me how much they love the nickname "Asta" I used, and I just want to clear the air:

I did not come up with it. I, too, have seen it used in other fics, although I could not give you a specific title from the top of my head now.

I use this site when researching names for fics, and according to this, Asta (Ásta) is the short form of Astrid (Ástríðr), although I've been told by AO3 commenter Alvilda that, at least in Denmark today, it is mostly used as a given name on its own today.

Btw, also according to the site mentioned above, Astrid is derived of two elements áss, meaning god, and fríðr, meaning beautiful, beloved. Asta, on the other hand, "nearly coincides" with the Icelandic word ást, meaninf love.
