A library... the teacher had mentioned a library downstairs and a block or two along. Hisao had endured an uncomfortably empty night already and he had no desire to repeat the experience; he'd been reminded yet again just how much quiet horror resided in the word "boredom." For some reason his expectation had been that leaving the hospital would end the long, dreary days of nothing; however, it was clear that had only been a foolish fancy. Luckily the hospital had taught him one thing he'd never forget: the value of a good book.
Hisao ruffled his messy brown hair and sighed as he made yet another wrong turn. It took him longer than he'd like to find his destination, but he supposed a little delay was inevitable. This was, after all, only his first day at Yamaku. One day... it seemed longer, yet it had only been about half that.
Found it. The large sign for the library drew him in and kept his attention long enough for a dark shape to collide with him. His mind processed the sounds he'd heard a moment too late: something about a flower and a goodbye. Sayonara, Lily. He felt the breath get knocked out of him, and fell to the floor with a sharp thud. He shook his head and looked up to find a sleepy blue-eyed boy, about his own age, staring back at him.
"Ouch," Hisao grumbled with a bit of humor, but his expression froze when something in his chest throbbed.
Fresh from the stifling warmth, the chill of the air-conditioned corridor caused Ryou to take a deep breath and step forward. If his chat with Lilly hadn't woken him, the collision with something just outside the library certainly roused Ryou's senses. He barely contained the surprised yelp and tried to identify the person he'd bumped into. Brown hair, defying the evident attempts to tame it, eyes of a similar shade...
And a face contorted with horrible pain. Panic shot through Ryou's system. He reached out for the guy's shoulder. "Hey - hey, you okay?"
