It had been a week since Daryl had read your journal and he was still trying to be nice to you. Now you were the one ignoring him. No matter how hard he tried to get your attention you would turn your head or walk away.
Today he had been especially annoying. It seemed like every time you turned around there he was. He would offer you a drink of water or a bite of food, give you tips on how to take down the geeks easier, offer you a rag to wipe your sweat, anything he could think of to be nice to you. He knew exactly how much he was getting under your skin and it only pissed you off that much more. He was only doing this because of what he read about himself in your journal.
So in need of some time to yourself you headed down to the library. After looking a few shelves over you found an interesting book and sat down at the table. You became lost in the world of the book you were reading, remembering things about the old world that you had completely forgotten about. You were in fact so enthralled in the book that you didn't hear the door to the library open behind you. So when you felt someone place their hand on your shoulder your first reaction was to fling your elbow up, hitting them straight in the nose.
“Son-of-a-bitch!” Daryl cursed and when you turned around to see who it was you saw him bent over clutching his nose. Blood filled his hand.
“Oh my gosh.” You gasped as you stood from the chair and placed your hand on his shoulder. “I'm so sorry. Are you okay?” you asked.
“What the hell's the matter with ya, didn't ya hear me?” he growled as he swung his hand at you angrily and backed away from you.
“No. I was lost in thought.” you explained, your apology still evident in your tone. He just glared at you as he pulled a red shop rag out of his pocket and pressed it to his nose. “Did I break it?”
Daryl moved the rag and felt around on his nose. “Na. Just bloodied it.” he answered.
“I really am sorry.” you apologized again. “Is there anything I can get you?” you asked as blood slid from his nostril down to his lip where he wiped it away with the rag. When your eyes lingered on his lips a few seconds longer than you intended he cleared his throat to get your attention. You blushed and scratched the back of your neck as you looked away. “Yeah... Bye.” you said in a rush as you moved around him and made a b-line for the door.
“Y/N, wait.” Daryl said and you did as ask. “I, uh,” he paused to wipe at his nose and tucked the rag into his pocket. “I'm sorry if I've been buggin' you.”
You glared at him and tucked your hands into your pockets. “Are you though?” you asked. “Because it looked to me like you've been having fun throwing me a pity party.” you walked around him over to the table where you leaned against it. “You just couldn't resist poking fin every chance you got. Constantly reminding me that I don't fit in here.” the more you spoke the madder you got. “Flirting with me just because you know now that I find you attractive. As if you actually like me back.” you scoffed and moved to walk around him to leave, but he caught you by your arm and pulled you into him.
You gasped and a split second later his lips met yours. The kiss cooled your temper and you melted into him. As he held your face to his, his arm calloused fingers messaged the back of your neck and his thumbs brushed your cheeks. A quiet moan bubbled up from your throat and you felt him smirk against your lips before they went back to messaging yours. His nose brushed yours as you kissed him back sending butterflies dancing through your stomach.
The kiss slowed before he pulled back and looked you in the eyes. You just stared up at him, shocked. He pecked you on the lips one more time and brushed his thumb along your jawline before he lot go of your face and walked around you. “I told ya, it's not pity.” his gravely voice hit your ears from where he stood behind you.
“But you hate me.” Your confusion was clear in your voice as you turned to look at him.
“I never hated ya.” he replied with a shake of his head.
You tilted your head and knit your brows. “But you never spoke to me. You acted like I didn't exist.”
Never thought I had a chance with a woman like you.” he said with a shy shrug.
“A woman like me?” you asked with a quirked brow.
He rolled his eyes. “Come on, you know you're beautiful.”
“What planet are you living on?” you argued without even thinking about it. He glared at you and what he said finally sank in. You blushed and smiled as you turned your eyes to the floor. “Thanks.” When you glanced back up at him he smiled a little. “So all those times I tried to make awkward small talk with you and you just walked away... That wasn't because you didn't like me, but because you did?” you asked and he bit his lip as he nodded.
In that moment you turned into a giggly schoolgirl, ran to him and threw your arms around his shoulders. He gladly grabbed your hips and pulled you into him as he pressed his lips to yours.
