1. WHAT THE FUCK?
2. I said (to my family member) when I saw the promo the other day that I was afraid of this because Scott said to Stiles ‘you killed Donovan’ – so I figured someone else told Scott, not Stiles himself. And I was fucking right. Theo twisted that story so badly!
3. And their break up scene in the rain sounded so awful and almost false sounding because Stiles went back to really believing he’s guilty, which ties into what Scott was told.
4. I hate this more than you can imagine. I was literally crying over it. That twisting of the story was brutal and cruel and I’m literally considering giving up the rest of TW as any kind of canon. (I can’t remember the last time I got so out of sorts over a show).
5. But…in the strangest possible way, I’m glad it worked out like this. If Scott really knew what happened, I still have enough faith in him to think that he’d recognise it as self defence. So the only way for the writers (out of universe) to really split him and Stiles up was for Scott to be fed a story that wasn’t the truth.
6. And I’d also really like to believe that Theo telling two different stories was a mess up on his part, and that it’ll come back to bite him…but I’m just not so sure it will. He’s a skilled, sociopathic manipulator and at this crucial stage of the game that could only have been a careful play on his part.
7. He had the wrench as ‘proof’ of what Stiles did and he was very clever with his wording when he told Scott – he was convincingly shocked and even stressed the fact that it was self defence as reverse psychology. And even after everything, Scott is an exhausted, stressed teenager who’s too emotionally invested to see straight. (Him believing Theo is also, I think, more complex. He didn’t exactly choose to believe him; when you’re being manipulated, the whole point is that you don’t realise it and it guides you into things you wouldn’t usually do/say/think).
8. But Theo probably knows that he couldn’t spin nearly the same story with the Sheriff. The Sheriff (not that he’d have believed it in the first place, because he’s a seasoned cop, not a stressed teenager) would have fully talked it out with Stiles, at which point the two stories would have collided and the Sheriff is going to believe Stiles over Theo.
9. And now he’s spun himself into a solid position. Scott isn’t going to trust Stiles at the moment. He’s even sort of implied he wants Stiles to stay away from Malia and Lydia. Theo has successfully isolated Stiles from anyone he’s even moderately likely to tell about what really happened.
10. The chances of Stiles going and actually talking to his dad are slim. Even if he does decide to go to him, Theo’s already positioned himself nicely there. Unless Stiles works up the nerve to tell his dad everything before the Sheriff can say a word, Sheriff is going to tell Stiles about what Theo said – how he accidentally killed Donovan in self defence, in part because he said he was coming after Stiles. Theo played on the Sheriff’s concern for his son to convince him Theo isn’t really to blame. Clever. And what are the chances Stiles is going to tell his dad ‘no, actually, that was me, not Theo’? Not likely. This way, Stiles doesn’t have to admit to his father that he’s the one who took a life, however it happened.
11.Theo is evil and I genuinely, totally, irrevocably hate his guts, but he’s very smart. I want the two stories to be a mistake, but I think its more likely it was a genius move that will make the actual truth even more convoluted and difficult to believe if it does come out.
12. But on a slightly separate point, Cody’s acting is ON POINT. Holy shit. He seems to be a really nice, genuine guy but he’s playing a total villain and it’s not even overdone or cringe-worthy. It’s so chillingly real.
13. Also, though I hate it a ton more, Theo’s own acting is good. Too good. Bastard. He can really bring up the waterworks right when he needs them.
Basically almost 100% of my issues with this episode is that Scott/Stiles scene and how that misunderstanding was able to get so out of hand. Not happy at all. I need fanfiction to fix this STAT. like yesterday.
14. But one thing I have to say…am I the only one glad Scott isn’t going to bite Hayden? Everything this whole episode has been going wrong and I thought he’d do it and I was ready to just throw in the towel, but then he said no and I was so relieved!
15. I love Hayden and everything but…I was thinking ever since Liam mentioned it, that it’s just what Theo (and the Dread Doctors) want. They’ve said all along that these Chimeras aren’t true supernaturals; they’re manufactured. The Doctors (possibly) are trying to create something to stand up to or even outmatch the true supernaturals.
16. Plus, Theo’s sort of the one who planted the idea by saying ‘she’s not like us’ ‘she won’t heal like us’…and then ‘but we can’t do it’…he literally puts it into Liam’s head that for Hayden to heal, she needs to be like them, which means she needs to be turned, and only Scott is capable…which sets the scene for Liam to turn on his Alpha when he refuses.
17. Why does Theo even need Hayden alive anyway? If he’s working with the Doctors and they don’t? I think its to do with gaining Liam’s allegiance if he takes over the pack. Just throwing that out there, though there’s a number of ways she could be useful leverage.
18. Back on point - We have no idea at all what could possibly happen if they made a Chimera a true supernatural. It could save her life. It might kill her. It would probably create something altogether new and maybe what the Doctors have been wanting. Why else not just kill her outright like they did with Tracy, Lucas, Corey and Beth? They left her alive for something. And given everyone’s talking about a Super Moon…I think they were hoping Scott would turn her.
19. So, Scott saying no might work out in Theo’s favour (which is the mark of a skilled manipulator, really – that you come out on top no matter the way it goes down). From the promo it seems like Liam may try to fight Scott to save Hayden…but for right now, I’m just glad he refused.
20. On that note…promo looks dodgy. Theo says to someone ‘I wanted a pack. I didn’t say Scott had to be in it’ or something. I’m just hoping he gets outed as a little shit because I can’t hold out until next year for him to be ass-kicked. Even if Stiles does punch him (LOOONG time coming) he needs far worse.
21. Natalie Martin knowing about the Supernatural is cool. Wonder if she worked it out after Tracy coughed up feathers or before? But seeing Malia’s eyes didn’t even make her blink. And awesome moment for Malia to work out that she knew more than she said. Loved her eyes, too.
22. The police questionnaire was hysterical. Maybe that’s just me. ‘Have you ever experienced a fugue state or had periods of missing time?’ haha. (Surely half the town’s population by now?) Sorry.
23. …I kinda like Parrish again? (Just to clarify, I loved him when he was initially introduced, but just in the last few episodes, I’ve gotten a weird vibe off him and it turned me off him a bit) But I liked him in this episode. I loved that he was open minded and just kind of went with it like ‘these kids have been doing this longer than me’ and when he thought he was even a little dangerous he locked himself up (that scene was funny, too. Loved that, him just chilling in a cell). Yeah, it could all be a very smart ploy, still…but I think he’s genuine and I just kind of liked him this time around. Also…Stiles never had an issue with Parrish, and since Stiles is usually (always) right…
24. No wonder Scott constantly needs his inhaler – he doesn’t seem to be using it properly. Just an observation.
25. I missed Melissa in this ep. Where was she? We even had scenes at the hospital and I was disappointed when Scott didn’t even say ‘where’s my mom?’ ‘Has anyone seen Melissa McCall?’
26. Where the fuck is Deaton?
27. THANK GOD Stiles shoulder seems to be healing. It’s still nasty looking, but that glimpse we got looks more healed over than you’d expect if it was actually getting infected or anything. Maybe that’s just me. (And to clarify, I’ve been progressively more worried over the past few weeks about this. They keep showing us Stiles is still in pain, but never showing the injury, so I’ve been quite worried the first time we see it, we’d see it was getting infected in some creepy way. So yeah, relieved).
28. (Also, unrelated, Has Dylan picked up Stiles nervous tick? In interviews lately he seems to be rubbing his shoulder a few times, around where Stiles was injured…this interests me)
29. I think I foresee the start of the end for Malia and Stiles (just a personal theory). Scott was saying at the start how everyone seems disconnected, and when they came into school, they weren’t close or talking and both of them were preoccupied. When Malia sees Beth’s murder, Stiles sees that something’s obviously wrong (He takes her hands, which has been symbolic of an anchor since season 1) but she’s too agitated to fully explain and says she just can’t handle anymore bodies before she breaks away (breaking hand connections has been symbolic of breaking an anchor, too. And there were close ups of their hands) and leaves. And on top of that, Stiles knows he’s responsible for another body that no one yet knows about.
30. That Doctors arm was dead creepy (awesome). The fact that his skin is basically a patchwork and he needs fugly green juice to re-inflate it…just…ew? (awesome). Sort of wondering if the Doctors are experimenting with DNA, Chimeras and supernatural to try to find a way to heal, preserve life or manufacture immortality? Seems like they’re deteriorating themselves so these are their desperate attempts at self preservation?
31. This is why Derek had to leave. With him around – heck, with Peter around – none of this shit would have gotten this far. Derek wouldn’t have trusted Theo one inch, and Peter knows all about being a magnificent bastard so he’d have seen that in Theo in an instant. Just my thoughts.
32. God damn Scott’s endless, unwarranted faith in people. For not being human, he’s humanly flawed, and I love that about these characters. And I’m not really into bashing characters, but it does annoy me that Scott just doesn’t seem to listen to Stiles. I’m not talking about now - right now, he’s been emotionally manipulated for the past couple of weeks and is in no stable mental condition. But I mean back in the first episodes when he didn’t even take Stiles’ warnings seriously. (Not that he’s wholy responsible. No one is. Stiles was progressively obsessive about it which probably didn’t help him look any saner).
33. I’m liking the scenes between Stiles and Lydia. I like that Lydia is almost the only person Stiles is still talking to and working with, even when Scott says the whole pack’s drifted apart. And I’m hoping she’s going to be the one who calls Scott out about why Stiles isn’t around and goes to find him. The pairings I ship don’t really come into it, its just that we’ve seen Stiles take Lydia’s corner and believe in her so many times and I’d like to see that come a full circle.
34. Is someone actually going to find all the bodies at the Nemeton? If Scott’s around, it’d be really nice if he noticed Donovan’s head hasn’t actually been bashed in. Unless Theo gets there first to tamper with it…
35. And about that…no one took their memories this time, so how come they’ve all lost the location again? Does it routinely hide itself from anyone who’s seen it by wiping their memory?
