Some SIX au understudy stuff

Raine attends enough rehearsals that he could do an understudy for Boleyn or Seymour if needed. He's a quick study and is eager to help. But his main role is a lady in waiting playing keyboard

I've decided Hook is playing Cleves and Jack is his reluctant understudy. I don't want my OC taking the limelight though so for a while, Hook can't attend rehearsals and Jack has to fill in a lot

Yuu previously played as K. Howard and was an understudy for Aragon back home. So they are the understudy for the three Catherines. Plus they can play piano decently to help the boys learn the music

Epel x Asper (Esper? Aspel? Something clever about the biblical snake and apple?)

Epel is insecure about his looks, Asper doesn't give a shit about people's looks

they're classmates, Epel invites him to the VDC in book 5

Epel thinks Asper is cool af, especially his music and snakes and idgaf attitude. Asper does like his fluffy hair and country accent

Asper doesn't really like Vil or Rook, and Epel lowkey likes to piss them off, Asper is his bad boy phase lol

Hook is the Flynn Rider to Raine's Rapunzel

Raine wants to try new things, chase thrills, and see the world. Hook is an adventerous pirate who travels the world. Their personalities mesh really well and they love to have chaotic fun together

Hook tells Raine epic stories of his travels and the places he's seen. Raine loves to hear all about it and wants that life, Hook loves that someone likes his stories and feeds into his desire to be respected

Multishipping my OCs x canon because I can

Sebek ships

I like Sebek and enjoy ships like Sebace and Silbek, but hear me out. Sebek x Hook and Sebek x Asper (separately, because Sebek could never land two baddies at once tbh)

Sebhook is all about the angst/drama of the childhood frienemies with a miscommunicated rivalry. Sebek thinks they're enemies because fae vs human, which tbf Hook is cautious of the fae. But Hook thinks they're enemies because Sebek (indirectly) caused him to lose his hand before Hook left for good (and Sebek doesn't know). Sebek assumes Hook was a coward and ran after he lost a friendly duel, and lost his hand during his time at sea.

When Hook reunites with Sebek at NRC, he immediately professes his loathing for him and vows to win back his honor, challenging Sebek to a swordfighting duel. Sebek, who has trained as a knight for years now, always wins unless they end in a draw. He lowkey thinks Hook is being overly theatrical but is not one to back down from a challenge, happy to entertain him and prove his superiority as (half) fae. Hook has learned to fight dirty and be more flexible in his form, which makes the match so much more interesting for Sebek.

I haven't worked out the exact details as to why Hook lost his hand. But while Hook blames Sebek, it's not really gonna be either of their faults. It's a dangerous third party, likely fae, that Hook made an unsavory deal with. And he could have completed the deal and made the deadline if Sebek hadn't gotten in the way (maybe? not concrete)

Over the school year, the duels become less intense and more routine. Hook still has something to prove but chills out a little when they become part of the same friend group, even if there's still that underlying tension.

Sebek starts to be less fired up for these matches as he becomes less anti-human, claiming its more of friendly practice and isn't that deep. This only serves to aggrevate Hook and get him more fired up, becoming more erratic and aggressive with intent to harm. Hook thinks they're sworn enemies for life so it pisses him off that Sebek thinks it's a casual frenemy rivalry and doesn't take it seriously.

I think the turning point would be in Book 7 when Sebek visits Hook's tsundere-ass dream and learns why Hook challenges him. He dreams of a world where he never lost his band and him and Sebek could've been friends long-term, sending him postcards during his travels etc. They do still duel but it's more of a friendly match with homoerotic energy.

Also IMAGINE if Hook got jealous of Silver and Sebek's friendly rivalry when they train together. Hook's like um wtf I thought I was your childhood friend-to-rival??? I think it'd be soooo funny if Hook started one-sided beef with Silver of all people. Even funnier if it's after they start dating. They would have such a weird dynamic from the outside

Hook: I heard you threatened to kill Silver during your duel with him yesterday

Sebek: babe my rival, it's not what it looks like!

Hook, pouty: just say you don't loathe me

Sebek: ... I could lift your chin with the tip of my blade and force you to look me in the eyes?

Hook: yes please 🥺

Asbek is about the fluff of meeting someone who genuinely loves the one thing everyone (seems to) hate about you.

Most people find Sebek's volume problem super annoying, scolding him for his loudness. Not only does it not bother Asper, he quite likes it. Being mostly blind, he often wants to be aware of who else is in the room with him and is easily able to identify/find Sebek. He likes Sebek's passion with the way he talks about Malleus or describes his latest book with such zeal. Plus Asper isn't very talkative so he could listen to Sebek talk for hours.

Meanwhile, Asper has always been seen as creepy or weird for his snakes, since it's part of the curse. He loves his snakes but he can be self conscious about it. As a fellow reptilian fae, Sebek wouldn't mind at all and be delighted to ask about his snake fae heritage, helping Asper open up more. They could have a lot in common! Especially since Asper didn't grow up in Briar Valley, Sebek would be more than happy to talk about it and introduce Asper to other fae like them.

Also Asper has an unsavory Medusa-related incident in his childhood, which affects the way he treats relationships and is wary of people. Thankfully, Sebek is very blunt/straightforward with his intentions and was raised to be chivalrous (like a knight). Plus neither of them would be big on physical affection initially anyway. Asper would hold onto his arm and try to act all nonchalant but they both get nervous and it's all cute

Asper likes loud techno or rave music and tries to get Sebek to listen with him. I think I read somewhere that Sebek does like concerts so that could be a cute date thing for them. Asper's not big on crowds but reallyyyy wants to attend this one concert and Sebek promises to go with him. Even among the loud music, Asper is still able to pick out Sebek's voice and feels more comfortable having someone he trusts accompany him.

One time Sebek brings Asper to Diasomnia and Lilia would pop out of nowhere, startling Asper severely and causing his snakes to hiss. Lilia apologizes but can't help and notice how Asper leaned into Sebek when startled. Not that Asper is weak or needs protection, but I could see Lilia noticing and try to set them up

Asper: it's fine, I literally don't even care-

Sebek: HE ASKED FOR NO PICKLES

First year friend group expanded!

Book 0-1: Ace, Deuce, and Yuu

Book 2-4: Jack, Hook, and Raine

Book 5-7: Epel, Asper, Ortho, and Sebek

Meeting through the plot

Hook meets the gang in Book 3, finds it amusing how many people get anemoned (he studied on his own and did decent). Taunts some of the new workers but gets ragebaited by Ace to help them and Yuu. Acts pretty cocky when he reveals he knows Azul's contracts aren't invincible, and that he got out of his own deals through loopholes. He also shows off his UM of finding anything, helping them find the museum in the first place

Hook is classmates with Raine, so Raine tags along with Hook after Azul's OB and meets the gang, eager to make friends. Yuu finds out Raine will be on campus for winter break cause his mom will be away on business. So Yuu offers to hang out sometime which Raine eagerly accepts.

When Raine doesn't show up to Ramshackle or answers Yuu's texts, Yuu goes to Scarabia to see him and gets wrapped up in Book 4. Raine goes along with it because he admires Kalim but hates how everyone is trapped and gets mixed feelings. Jamil always makes him nervous but can't put his finger on it. Raine tries to help break Yuu and Grim out, distracting the guards as they flee. When Jamil OBs and flings them across the desert, Raine uses his UM to heal their injuries before they head back for the final fight.

In Book 5, Raine also applies for VDC but doesn't get in. He does meet Epel though, whom Hook has mentioned from Magift club. Hook and Raine go to cheer the performers on, meeting another first year named Asper in the crowd. Epel and Asper are classmates, Epel likes him because he's cool, doesn't care about looks, and isn't weird about Epel's feminine appearance. Epel invites him to VDC even if he can't see the dancing since Asper is super into music, which he appreciates even if large crowds aren't his forte.

I'm holding off on Book 6, but I don't think Asper will be involved much in those events.

All I know about Book 7 is that they go through everyone's dreams, so maybe I'll think about what their dreams will be. I do want some hint at Sebek and Hook's childhood and Sebek learning why Hook resents him (he was very indirectly involved in the loss of his hand). Drama~

Other Notes

Hook is in Magift club with Epel. Raine is in equestrian club with Sebek. Raine makes sure to cheer on his friends at their respective matches: magift, basketball, track and field.

Hook has a bitter rivalry with Sebek even if he doesn't know about Hook losing his hand. They end up in this weird frenemies situation where it's on sight but still orbit each other by virtue of having the same friends. Hook can and will challenge Sebek to a duel at random times of the day and Sebek is no coward

Asper is the slowest to warm up to everyone. Befriends Ortho, Epel, and Sebek quickest.

Sebek, Hook, and Ace are the most argumentative and will get into a fight if left alone in a room.

Raine isn't too familiar with beastmen, fae, or merfolk and thinks Jack and Asper are so cool. They all take care of their hair/fur together. Asper likes how honest and open Raine is.

Ace is quite amused to find out Raine's mom was the one to accidentally start the Radiant Reenactment event. He busts out laughing and begs Raine to not tell Jack, Deuce, Riddle, and Kalim, at least not without him.

Asper would unironically like Ace's dumbest jokes and try so hard not to laugh, not wanting to give him the satisfaction. He has a cool guy vibe to maintain!

Study sessions are...fun. Asper, Jack, and Ortho are the main ones tutoring the others. Sebek, Deuce, and Raine are determined to learn wirh varying degrees of success. Ace, Epel, and Hook aren't the best and try to goof off, derailing the conversation to random stuff

Pirate guy based on captain hook

For now his name is James Henry de Hierro, which gets shortened to Hookhand Henry and then Hook

Grew up on the briar valley coast but mostly travelled on the seas as a cabin boy

Appearance

sorted into Octavinelle but doesn't like the stuffy outfit, rolls up the sleeves of the shirt and wears the scarf like a belt, wears the jacket over his shoulder if he bothers to wear it at all. but is technically wearing the dorm uniform elements so fuck off Azul

has tanned skin with freckles, dark curly hair tied in a ponytail, bright eyes

wears an eyepatch for aesthetic, both of his eyes are fine, carries a telescope?

has a prosthetic hand after an accident from his early days as a swabbie, switches it out with random tools he makes, the earliest one being a metal hook

has a weird blood condition, doesn't like getting cuts or scratches and sometimes gets called cowardly because of it >:(he is cowardly but that's not why!)

Personality

adventerous and ambitious. kinda tempermental and pompous but capable of manners when he wants to. quick to resort to cruel violence when truly angered

cunning when he applies himself, often mistaken for a fool by how easily he gets spooked and rises to childish taunts

wants respect and admiration, came to NRC to learn practical magic to make him a better adventurer and sailor

will tell fantastical stories about his travels to anyone who'll listen, greatly exaggerating parts but great storyteller

hoarder, likes collecting/stealing random trinkets, not just treasure (because everything can be a treasure to someone) but the amount of valuable treasure does determine a pirate's worth in his eyes

definitely brash, doesn't respect personal space much, curses and drinks like a sailor despite being underaged

favorite class subjects include geography and learning to fly (yet bad at the latter), never one to back down from a challenge

dislikes the fae but intimately familiar with their rules and customs, good at loopholes and selective truths, speaks their language

has beef with Sebek from their childhood (in reference to the tick tock croc)

How he interacts with the school

Obviously he doesn't jive with Azul and the Leech twins much. he's not intimidated much, just finds them annoying and slimy. he's had his fair share of deals with the fae, so he knows better than to agree to any contracts or be in their debt.

does enjoy finding loopholes, especially to mess with his housewarden. doesn't wear the dorm uniform properly. claims his disability or something with his blood condition prevents him from working at the Lounge

Floyd specifically he's fine with hanging out with, they amuse each other well enough during their limited interactions

as for other dorms, I could see him getting along with Ace in a fun, ragebait feedback loop kinda way. less flirty though (unless?)

if it wasn't run by just Jade, he'd join the mountain lovers club in a heart beat. so instead he probably joins the music or magift club. likes Epel and Ruggie well enough
