thinking about how Eursulon as a spirit has a certain amount of (somewhat naïve, because of his wayshadowing and life spent in the mortal world) trust and respect for other spirits, because he expects that they have that for him as well - they’re supposed to be equals (to some degree). he doesn’t think of loopholes and trickery and careful wording when he’s dealing with other spirits (also probably because of his own nature), especially with the Man in Black, because they have an established relationship and the MIB has helped him before.
but Níf. she does exactly what a witch is supposed to, she knows exactly how to be careful and cunning in wording and negotiation and understanding. she understands the importance of words and the ways that spirits move. and she sees through what’s happening IMMEDIATELY. she HAS the skills, and they come from the care she has for the children. it’s so interesting that it’s the MIB himself who told Eursulon to bring a witch, and god this is why they’re important. they see what’s hidden, the intricate connective tissue of magic and liminal space between one dream and another. witches need relationships with spirits, and spirits need relationships with witches too.
