It was the loud clap of thunder that had woken Penny from the uneasy sleep she’d been in. Ever since she’d been young, it had been nearly impossible for her to sleep during thunderstorms. That probably stemmed from the time her brothers made her watch a scary movie during a storm one time that had traumatized her so much that she hadn’t been the same since. Thankfully, storms like this were few and far between in her city, but tonight was clearly an exception to the rule. With a sigh, she ran her fingers through her hair and sat up slowly. She knew she wouldn’t be able to fall back to sleep so she figured she wouldn’t even try.
Her eyes drifted over to the other side of the bed and a smile slowly appeared on her face. For a brief moment, she debated on whether or not to wake him up. They were still in the early stages of their relationship and Penny was still always cautious about the things she said and did. The last thing she wanted was to do something that might cause him to leave. In the end she decided that waking him but because she was frightened and couldn’t sleep didn’t fall under that category. Besides, she’d just make it up to him anyway. “Harley,” she whispered, scooting closer to him. Her hand dipped under the covers and she gently trailed her fingertips up and down his arm in an attempt to get his attention. She didn’t want to startle him. “Are you awake?” She called a little louder, her lips forming her signature pout.
