Nebula

Summary: Written for @popcornthecat my take on the initial meeting between MC and Commodore Fox. Sorry it’s so late. I hope you like it. I thought he would be a lot more gentle. He just hates Antares, so he’s an asshole.

Commodore Fox scoffed as he looked out at the small colony his ship orbited. It was on the outer rim of the system and looked as if it was ready to split in half. A squad was performing a raid to find the engineer GLF Security said had hacked into their systems. Tyberius glanced down at the data screen.

The girl…no. The woman, appeared to be about twenty-five years old. She wore a standard Union Science Division uniform. She was not smiling in this picture as it was for official use, chestnut hair was pulled off to the side in a ponytail but her eyes. Her eyes drew him in. First look they seemed to be plain brown, typical for a human. Something caused Tyberius to look again, something he would never be able to name, but when he did, his breath caught in his throat. Her eyes…they…they were…

Anaki sprinted down an alleyway. Chest heaving, heart and mind racing. Gotta find a way out. She turned her head to look over her shoulder and tripped over a trash can. Pain splintered its way from the left knee that she landed on to her hip and tears sprung to her eyes as she landed on her side. Before she could roll over and attempt to assess the damage, a pair of hands gripped her arms and pulled her up. Being forced to put weight on her knee was not what Anaki needed right now and the tears began to flow freely.

“Anaki Lanscar, under jurisdiction of the Galactic Liberation Front, you are here by being taken into custody.” The words echoed in her mind but the reverberating pain was too much for her to process them.

The soldiers half pulled, half dragged Anaki to a GLF shuttle that took them to a large, brand new looking, battle cruiser. Anxiety pooled and churned in her stomach, she tried to tip her weight off of her left side but it was proving difficult. Anaki was taken to what appeared to be a high-ranking officer’s waiting room and she instantly felt out of place. And dirty. The room was spotless, nothing out of place. Though, Anaki noticed, nothing to signify that this officer had any family, or friends.

Several couches were arranged to make the room inviting but Anaki felt anything but. They kidnapped me. I’m not sitting. Large windows showed the vast expanse of space, looking carefully at the seams, Anaki could see that there were projection screens available for use.

She hissed as her leg ached in protest to standing for so long and she was just about to cave when a door close to the window slid open and a tall man with purple tinted skin and silver hair walked out. He was imposing, and carried himself as if he was well aware of that fact. His GLF uniform fit him perfectly and only seemed to accent his coloring. His eyes traced over her figure, landing on leg. He marched over to her, long purposeful steps.

“You’re hurt.” He said, his voice was deep and sent shivers down Anaki’s spine. “Why are you hurt?”

“I…tripped…while I was running away.” Anaki blushed when the man raised an eyebrow.

“I see. At least I won’t have to fire anyone.” He gestured to a couch “Can you make it to a couch, or would you like assistance?”

Anaki was about to tell him where he could shove his assistance but another sharp pain went through her leg. “Some assistance.” The man nodded and carefully took her arm and wrapped it around his shoulders. The height difference was such that he basically lifted her himself. They made it the short distance to the couch and he helped her lay down.

“I’m going to call for an aid kit.” The man said as he stepped away.

The aid kit came and the man set about treating Anaki’s leg. “So, you’re Anaki Lanscar. Top of your class. Hacked into GLF files last week.”

Anaki looked at him and nodded “I am…I mean, to the first part…I didn’t mean to hack into GLF files. I was looking through Union files at the time…”

Anaki continued to ramble and Tyberius watched her.

Tyberius listened to Anaki talk, her eyes lighting up when she was talking about her work. He came to understand that she hadn’t meant to access GLF files, the Union were the ones attempting to gain access and Anaki had broken the code.

“Who are you?” Anaki asked, she was sitting up now watching Tyberius pack away the kit.

Tyberius stood “I am Commodore Tyberius Fox of the Galactic Liberation Front.”

Anaki was quiet for a moment, then she nodded “Okay. Thank you for helping me with my knee. What’s going to happen to me now?”

“Did you keep a copy of the files you hacked?”

“Yeah, I wasn’t done decrypting them and was gonna work on them at home.”

“Work on them here.” Tyberius knelt so that they were eye level, he could look in her eyes for hours. “Come work for the GLF.”

“I—”

Tyberius held up a hand “Or, at the very least, help us get back what the Union stole.”

Anaki nodded “Okay. When do I start?”

“After dinner.” Tyberius stood “I’ll have someone come and get you. I’m sure you’ll want to freshen up and change after the day you’ve had.” He headed to the door he entered through.

“Thank you, Tyberius.” Anaki called after him. He did not respond.

Tyberius Fox would have to think of something else to keep the brilliant Anaki Lanscar by his side. He knew she would be done decoding those files quickly. He didn’t want to let her go. He wanted to keep the woman with eyes like hers by his side forever. Eyes like a nebula.
