@tygerburned asked: ❝ you’re just the first person i’ve met who isn’t an asshole. ❞
the reception room, glorious in its history and perfectly vaulted to allow people to talk, was a wonder. yet, her attention wasn’t on the lovely architecture, but rather the tall man in front of her. ❝ that’s disappointing to hear. ❞ true regret lilted her voice, more than a little ashamed of people who might even be colleagues. why anyone in academics would be unwelcoming to those outside that little world, she didn’t understand. collectors, sadly, some of them were rather... removed from reality, as she’d learned. never would she work for any of them. but academics should be far more congenial. they were supposed to educate all people, not only the ones who followed in their footsteps.
❝ i hope i’m far more pleasant than just not an asshole. ❞ though, despite her dismay, she couldn’t say she wasn’t surprised. some of the stiffest hate she’d received in her life was from fellow academics in her field, people who she would have willingly supported otherwise. the situation was one she never had expected possible when she headed down this path. but this wasn’t something he should face. with a sweet smile and a wink, she softly shook her head, buying her hands in the pockets of her grey-blue slacks. ❝ you stick with me, and i’ll fight them off, ya know. ❞ she doubted the stranger would wish to - he’s clearly capable of at least defending himself in a physical sense - but it’s an offer she felt obligated to make. at least, it’s not one she’d rue if he accepted.
