Raleigh native Tyler Weiss talks about getting drafted by the Colorado Avalanche at the 2018 NHL Draft
“I’ll be honest, I was shaking.” Colorado’s Tyler Weiss on hearing his name called. --source
Tyler Weiss and his family were on our American Airlines flight that never quite made it to Dallas. They planned on driving to Greensboro to catch a same-day flight but ended up departing RDU on Friday morning.
Weiss' brother had slept through the whole ordeal. When we landed back in Raleigh, Tyler said his brother woke up and thought we were in Dallas. So, Tyler's draft day probably was a little less nerve-racking than actually getting here.
Weiss on what this means for NC hockey: "It gives kids hope that they can make it. Their dads, they don’t need to play in the NHL or need connections. My dad’s a beer league ref. They can make it on their own if they work hard & don’t let anybody stop them or get in their way."

Tyler Weiss of Raleigh always believed he would play in the NHL one day. The forward is just days away from fulfilling that dream in the 2018 NHL Draft in Dallas, and proud to be representing Raleigh.
-Weiss said he had 22 interviews in all. Among those passing on him in Buffalo, he said: the Hurricanes, his hometown team. “I mean, seriously, come on now,” he said, chuckling again.
