"I'm not ready to be a parent." // "Are you sure we can do this? Have this baby?" for malisaac obvi :~)
"I'm not ready to be a parent."
In Malia’s mind, all of this seemed like it was Isaac’sfault. It wasn’t, of course, because it most certainly took two people tocreate a baby, and of course Malia knewthat it wasn’t Isaac’s fault, but for some reason she couldn’t shake the ideathat maybe if he’d never said anything or never noticed that her symptoms soclosely matched exactly what he was learning in his OB rotation of school, thatthis wouldn’t be happening. Malia often found ignorance to be bliss, and thiswas one of those moments. So hearing Isaac say that he wasn’t ready to be aparent when it was because of him they even knew what was going on felt like aslap in the face.
“And you think I am?” she said, her voice a bit harsher thanshe probably meant it. She understood how he felt, because she felt the sameway – neither of them had ideal childhoods, with Isaac losing both his motherand his brother and dealing with his abusive, jackass father (if the man wasn’talready dead, Malia would have finished him off herself), and Malia having beenadopted, accidentally killing her mother and sister, and finding out later onthat her birth parents were both psychotic murderers. Neither of them had greatexperiences to go off of.
“And I know I won’t be able to do it without you,” Maliafinally said, her voice soft again. She needed Isaac, baby or no baby, and sheonly hoped that this wouldn’t drive him off.
"Are you sure we can do this? Have this baby?"
Malia shrugged, not really looking up from the issue of NatGeo that she was currently reading. Or, well, looking at the pictures now, because after Isaac asked her that question, that wasn’t much else that shecould think about. Honestly, she had no clue whatsoever if they could do thisor not – they were both still students, and while Malia had more than enoughmoney than they needed to raise a baby thanks to Derek giving her most of Peter’smoney that he’d managed to get back from The Deadpool, save for what was neededto pay for his incarceration at Eichen. They had the money, but did they havethe skills to actually be parents?
“I know you’ll be able to do it,” she said, a bit timidly asshe finally looked up at Isaac. There was no doubt in her mind that he’d be anamazing father – he was already so caring, and honestly if he had the skills tohave gotten as far in to nursing school as he has so far, he could be a father.Malia, on the other hand, had no useable experience, no way of knowing shecould handle motherhood. She was terrified she’d turn in to her own birthparents – hateful and ready for vengeance like her mother, or murderous anduncaring like her father. She was constantly conflicted between actually kindof liking the idea that she was pregnant with Isaac’s child as there’s no oneelse she would ever want to do any of it with, and being scared she’d fuck itall up. “I… don’t know about me, though.” She finally admitted.
