Hello my question is - project image one the first (of many) brainstorms for a question. A lot of the questions revolved around my own experience with design - my experience being that it is used heavily for advertising, and advertising (seems primarily) to be used to make people feel really terrible about themselves. I wanted to address this issue I had (even though at this point I hadn’t decided on my articulation). image two, three, four Recognising that I wanted to touch on consumerism in my question, I began photographing objects for sale. Starting at the NGV design store. The ‘A’ coming - a David Hockney display. The ‘O’, a bolt on a photography book (the name of which I’ve since lost) and the fancy earrings making an ‘L’. This idea ended with further reflection (see reflection writing). image five I feel somewhat strange for including this snippet of a conversation as it shows that literally, the (almost) final form of my question took and that it wasn’t imagined by myself. But I feel its important to acknowledge this because that’s such a natural part of a my process (not stealing other people’s ideas) but discussing and brainstorming with someone else to better define my thoughts. I find that when I’m trying to communicate directly to someone and they filter back their own interpretation back to me, it allows me to better understand what I’m aiming to communicate. However in this instance my friend really just nailed what I wanted to say (she’s a really great friend). image six, seven, eight d o c u m e n t a t i o n As the idea literally came to me as I was making hummus, I had to make do with my phone camera, a pad of paper and my kitchen’s ‘natural’ lighting to create my photoshoot. These are the original unedited versions to show where the ‘M’,‘N’, ‘W’ and ‘E’ come from. It was an interesting challenge in perspective as once I’d decided I was only going to use the ingredients and kitchen utensils I had, I had to shift how I viewed an object to find a form in it. The only thing I would have really to liked to changed about the ‘shoot’ was the lighting. Lighting is everything. image six brainstorm from one word (food) for the week 4 tutorial, to aid with reflective writing.
