November 8, 2013: Typhoon Haiyan, as a category 5 storm, known as Super Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, was one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded. On making landfall, Haiyan devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines. It laid waste to the Visayas group of islands, the country's central region and home to 17 million people. Haiyan was the most powerful storm in 2013 and one of the most powerful typhoons of all time. 💔 A heartbreaking memory to all filipinos and to everyone.. Let us offer prayers and light candles for our brothers and sisters who were affected in this disaster 5 years ago. #rememberyolanda #typhoonyolanda #typhoon #hurricane #hurricanehaiyan #haiyan #disaster #people #ph #philippines https://www.instagram.com/p/Bp4ionIg6sL/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1lb9bgg5wb0fz
Homes, Tacloban city, Philippines, 2014. I shot these images 9 months after the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan which destroyed the city and killed an estimated 15,000 people. I was struck by how quickly people had to rebuild and try return to normal. Part of this process was them rebuilding their homes where loved ones and friends had perished, as life had to carry on. The images show the small gaps between the homes out to the sea. “Tindog Tacloban !” . . #tacloban #philippines #typhoonhaiyan #typhoonyolanda #home #5years #instituteartist #ifnotusthenwho (at Tacloban City)
