A drag off his cigarette and silence is shattered by that question. Hopeless wars. Never really one to pay much attention to politics, or to care too much for war, never really asked about Vietnam-- was too young to understand what was happening. Not that anyone would want to talk about it anyways. “All I’m saying is that you wouldn’t catch me fighting in a war.” But now Free has made it philosophical hasn’t he? “What do you think?”

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” Watches as Free picks up a fry off Billy’s tray and put it in his mouth. “If you fucking wanted something you could have asked.”

Off duty but that doesn’t mean that Billy doesn’t take his sweet fucking time getting off the lifeguard stand like it’s some fucking show. He knows it is-- he likes the attention and any kind of attention is good attention isn’t it? And besides his eyes scan the crowd for-- that dude. The one that looks as out of place in Hawkins as Billy did when he first got here -- or perhaps even more out of place because even at the pool he looks like he should be anywhere but here.

And it’s obvious that he people watches, and Billy’s perhaps watches him too much himself besides watching the stupid fucking kids in the pool trying to drown each other. So when he makes his way over towards the locker room he stops for a moment to chat. “You new here or something..?”
