“ if it hurts, good. it means you’re still going. now just hold on a little longer. ”
“ Is that what it means now? ”
Amusement threads her tone, lips half-curled in a weary smile as she takes the hand extended to her, free palm pressed against her wound. It aches, but it's not fatal – at the very least its tenderness will keep her on her feet until they’ve found refuge. And this is just an aftermath to her own oversight and negligence; fortunately the only collateral damage here was time itself. A setback she was sure he’d remind her of once there was calm. The attack was swift, but the battle was just a fleeting thorn in their trek. After separating from the main camp to investigate, she’d ventured just a little too far from secure boundaries and made herself prey for prowling beasts. Something Kaleb had reminded her to be wary of before they’d even set out. Once on her feet, she steadies her hand over the hilt of her blade, eyeing the creatures that have circled back – teeth bared in caution. It seems The Kings’ presence is felt even amongst everything that dwells upon the land. It only took one of their own to fall for them to withdraw into the shadows. And she recognizes this as a mercy on his end. It doesn’t appear as though she’ll need to draw her sword, but she keeps alert nonetheless.
“ Sorry, it’s okay. I’ll be fine to continue. I’ll mend when we’re back. ”
She reassures, attention diverted to their mounts posted just a short distance back. Though she lacked the ability to regenerate and heal like demons did, the gash would be manageable with a little pressure. This was the reality of being a mortal within his army and the shadow of doubt loomed heavy over her stand within his forces; it would do more harm to bend to every pain. She inhales sharply, taking one final glance back at the creatures before stepping towards their mounts. “ Well, doesn’t look like there’s anything happening over here, at the very least. Maybe the others found something up ahead. ”
