Handcarved
The evening air was warm as it passed through the open window, Astrias sat quietly in the lone chair in one of the smaller rooms of their house her hands resting lightly on her growing stomach as she hummed a slow tune. The pastel green of the walls was accented by the chirping of birds from Eversong as she had hoped it to be, a quiet chuckle rose in her throat as she thought of the difficulty she’d had in getting the right shading for the paint. Happiness with her handiwork filled her, she had doubted herself when she started painting the walls but it had been something to do while Tyverus was away. The room fell silent as the ranger filled her thoughts, her worry for his silence giving her pause as she looked at the small carved bear that was tied above the crib, she did not know when he had carved it and the thought had crossed her mind that he might not have even carved it himself as the edges were rather rough. She remembered the first ring he had offered her as he professed his love and intentions, damning expectations to follow his heart and as he had hoped hers. It was a beautiful ring he carved by hand with such care, smoothed to perfection to draw each detail of the wood grain to shine in it’s own right. The little bear seemed to be formed by a completely different touch, one she did not think Tyverus would have thought fitting to give to their son.
Slowly Astrias dropped her gaze, her thoughts turning over the distance that her husband still offered. ~“I’m fine.”~ Those words had become an automatic response when she asked after him and she scowled as they echoed in her mind. She sat for a long while as her expression smoothed and her attention was drawn to what she was staring at, another handcarved piece that dominated the room and seemed to stand as expectantly as she sat, the crib.
~
“I want to give you something. I hope you don’t mind that I made you a little something, well, your baby.” The elf stood by Astrias, keeping a further distance than she ever recalled him standing as he addressed her. There was hesitation in Sadenel as he looked at her, some sadness in his gaze that was quickly covered by a brashness that was new to his face or so she thought. It had been some time since they had spoken, short encounters in formal settings that made it possible to pass over the awkwardness that had come between them. “I do not mind.” She answered, careful with her wording as she was uncertain where they held each other. He removed his mask to reveal his smile before simply turning toward the back door of the Hospital where the labs were, she followed hesitantly as he beckoned.
“I don't know if you know this or not, but I have been working with wood for a long time. When I saw you were pregnant I had to make you something.” He walked over to the large object that stood in the room and gripped the canvas that covered it. “Are you ready?” Astrias paused as she saw the covered thing, her olive hues flitted to his face. “I did not know that about you.” She focused back on the canvas, “I suppose.” With a flourish he ripped the canvas away revealing a handcrafted crib. The pieces were made from finely aged redwood with carved tigerlilies over the rails. “I know this won't repair things between us but I wanted your child to rest in something made by a friend. You see, I was busy picking the wood and carving it. I decided tigerlilies because it kinda represents us, ya know?” She stared at the crib, her gaze flowing over the intricately carved flowers. Her brows swooped low as her mind went to the very flower that sat safely pressed in her keepsake chest at home. “Sadenel... you did not have to..” She shook her head slowly, “Goodness.” Her smile came back as she stepped towards it lifting a hand to touch the railing, “It is beautiful.”
“You did not have too, truly..” Her words were quiet as Astrias spoke, “Thank you..” She seemed at a loss for words, her confusion and happiness causing the light in her eyes to flash and fade. “You know how it is. We never have to do anything, we just want to. I noticed you been having a busy time and I thought this would be one less thing you would have to worry about. Sorry I rushed it but if you want I could make you a rocking chair to match.” She felt her ears warm and she knew that they had turned a light pink, "Oh, no.. Tyverus does some whittling.. and I wouldn't want to draw your attention away from your other responsibilities." She pressed her lips together, dropping her gaze as her thoughts shifted back to the night she had gone to see him. Their argument flashing in her mind, his words that shocked and then angered her as he bit back in response to her tears. Her thoughts lingered on the tigerlily he had given her long ago for a moment before she added, “I would have you leave a good impression with him.” Sadenel chuckled, “The crib is yours, I hope you like it and that your baby will like it as well.” He seemed unphased by her mood or accepting of her distancing herself from him since that night. She took it as a sign that her presentation held, enforcing the thought was his wide smile as he beamed with pride over his work. Astrias offered him a brighter smile, “Thank you Sadenel..” He noticed the sadness in her gaze as she looked at him, “Asti.. is there something on your mind? I am here for you, if you wish.” She shifted, trying to compose herself with the easy motion as she set her shoulders, “There is much, as I am sure you can imagine. This is, after all.. unusual for me.” She saw him look around before asking, “What is? The crib.. or me?”
“Both. This is my first child… and the first I’ve had to work to consider friend without.. without slipping so fast into the stance we had in the past.” She heard her own hesitation and felt her ears droop as he took a deep breath. “Asti.. if it is work then maybe I damaged us too much to go back. If you just wish to be colleagues I do understand. If you wish me to be somewhere else, I can’t fault you. You are more important here that I am. If you want to go back to what we once were that is great, but if it is not there then we can’t force it to work.” She listened to him, her thoughts processing what he meant or could mean, still remaining silent as he continued. “Your child will be smart and beautiful and happy because it will be yours. You always had this light in you, even during the hard times. Don’t be afraid to share it with the world, even if I am not included.”
Astrias slowly shook her head, “That is not what I am saying.. honestly, I am confused. I know that you have apologized, I would not have your life influenced by such. I am warned in each instance that we've encountered each other.. that we are not the same. I wonder even, if I know you still. I see in you the boy I knew before.. but those eyes are shaded with this man.. who I do not know.” She looked at the crib he had carved for her and waited for his response. “And I see the same when I look at you. This wallflower that was scared of her own shadow has grown into this strong woman I see now. I catch glimpses of the Asti I knew but time has forged us.” Her fingers traced the petals, her expression smoothing. “Perhaps it is true.. I cannot think to say different as I am in awe of my words to you so long ago. Speaking caution to your courage.”
She heard him move closer to her though he still kept a respectful distance as she looked up to see his smile before he spoke, “We were quite a team. You the voice of reason and me...well being me. The time we tried to.... I tried to to pick the lock on Cero's chest.” Astrias lifted a hand to cover her lips as her laughter peeled out. “You were so cautious to open any other boxes for only a week!” She quieted as he continued, “But the zepplin ride from Thunder Bluff to Orgrimmar, that was one that stood out in my mind. You see that is where I got the flower.” Her giggle faded as she turned her gaze from him, “Oh?” She shook her head once, “I have kept it.” She caught his nod from the corner of her eye, “I know you have. That is why I chose to carve the tigerlilies on the wood. A symbol of your friendship. One thing Felano always said is that families fight. Before Felano adopted me.. you were my family, my sister. I know you might not see me like that but to me you will be my sister. I am sorry I failed you.”
“You did not fail me. You made no promises and know that I will have none. We are friends and I am happy to have shared such times with you.” Astrias released a quiet breath, “Our paths may cross and they may part, but we are happy to hold and build those ties again… At least, I would like to think so.”

A Gift as a Gift
“Oh, there she is!”
The voice rose to catch her attention as Astrias walked through the Gate with the ranger, bewildered for a moment as she focused on the elf who had spoken, “Good evening.” It only took a moment for her to recall the auctioneer from the Hospital Benefit though she could not remember her being so animated. “You were the lady I spoke to yesterday from the Hospital, right?” Astrias could sense Tyverus tense beside her and her nervousness sent a thrill of worry through her as she shot him a quick look, “Dear. Give me a moment.” She turned back to the smiling elf as she heard him respond before going further into the City, “Of course.”
Elaice looked from side to side before stepping back to clear the path in front of the gate, “Um, I’m sorry I forgot your name, to be honest.” Astrias caught the apology in her smile as she glanced down at the wiggling ball of fur in the elf’s arms. “I am Astrias Shadowstar. No worries, I have made several acquaintances these last few days.” She lifted a hand to stay any apology that might be offered as her own polite smile came to her lips, again she looked at the creature in the Elaice’s arms and saw that it was a puppy.
“Oh, right, well, I remembered you were asking about these and I told Lady Sungazer about your question and she talked to Lord Dawnraiser who is the one who bred the puppies and-” The blonde stopped to take a breath, of which she had not yet. Astrias’ ears swiveled back, the name Dawnraiser familiar. “Oh, I see.” She flashed a brighter smile as she let the news of Lord Dawnraiser fade without comment. “They wanted to give you this as a gift.” With that, she held out the little puppy who wagged his tail with excitement. “Indeed, I was looking to..” She paused as the elf offers the pup, her features showing her surprise. “I've no coin on me at the moment.” She looked between the pup and the blonde elf, feeling her brows swoop low with uncertainty. “They want to make sure they go to good homes,” Elaice nodded once, “They can't afford to keep them all. They take up resources, they said.” Again the elf nodded and the little pup barked before nibbling on her hand. “Hey, hey!”
Astrias hesitated before stepping forward, it did not set well with her to accept such a gift without a proper exchange but the auctioneer’s excitement did not seem practiced. “Oh, goodness.” She smiled brightly at the little pup. “I will have to be sure to thank them.” Slowly she lifted a hand to let the pup sniff her fingers. “Adorable, I am certain that he will be happy with us.” Elaice clapped her hands together as he's taken. “I thought so!” she says, “Lady Sungazer too!” Astrias smiled at the pup as she asked, “Do you know if he is prone to barking?” surprised at the question and realizing how it’s presence and barking would affect their home when the baby arrived. Another elf spoke, his comment obviously directed at her. “You have not much to fear with that little one. He knows you’ll soon be a mother. He knows he’ll be loved.” She looked at the elf and saw that he began to scratch the back of his neck seemingly embarrassed that he had commented and revealing that he had been eavesdropping. The elf didn’t meet her gaze and her attention shifted back to Elaice who spoke, “They are teething, but they listen well. They just need training.”
“Oh, thank you.” Astrias scratched gently at the pup's neck, giving a slight nod to them both before setting her olive gaze on the pup. “I suppose we'll have to wrap you up and deliver you as swiftly as possible.” She booped his nose gently as she nodded. “You will be perfect if you're quiet for but a few moments.” Looking up she flashed a warm smile to Elaice, “Thank you so very much. I take it Lord Dawnraiser and Lady Sungazer may be reached by courier?” The blonde nodded as she replied, "Of course! I'll let you get back to the gentleman.” Astrias looked around, startled as if Tyverus had reappeared to discover what she was up to and the plans she’d made to surprise him. She moved the pup to be hidden by her growing stomach, “Thank you again and do let me say that I think you did very well with the event.” She nodded, smiling brightly. “Enjoy your evening.”

Favorite kind of pizza?
WELL FINE MAKE IT AN OOC QUESTION!
Fun fact...I actually don't really like pizza. At least with sauce on it.
I prefer the breads with thick cheese, pepperoni's and parmesan on them with garlic butter crust. Though I'd still choose chicken wings over that anyways. >.>;

Asking Him
Astrias lingered in their bedroom, brushing her hair as she thought of the last few days that passed since the ranger’s return, sadness and concern for him at the forefront of her attention. ~ You are home, yet you feel further from me than ever.. ~ The brush idled at her neck before her hand fell into her lap, ~ Have I truly been that cruel? ~ She caught her own worried gaze as she peered at her reflection, her mind a torrent of memories and emotion. She still could not recall the argument Azuriann had spoken of that had taken place in the Hospital, her ears dropped as shame colored them. ~ I raised my voice to him? ~ She felt like crying, she could feel her throat tightening in anticipation of the overflow of the disappointment she felt for herself. The brush clattering to the ground jolting her upright, having curled over herself as she rubbed her temples. “Dear child, do you think he is still angry?” Her voice rose as she addressed her growing stomach and the baby within, doubt pulling her brows low. “I will have you know that he does not enjoy such gatherings, your father is a man who likes to be prepared and aware.”
Straightening after reaching to recover the brush, she lifted her gaze to her reflection, “Go and ask him.” Astrias set her shoulders back as she gave herself instruction, nodding to herself to impress the course of action. Leaving the bedroom she moved down the hall in her slip, the thin fabric modest enough in the privacy of their home, her bare feet padding heavily across the wood to announce her presence. “Would you like to accompany me to the Dance this evening? It is the Saydee Hawksun in benefit to the Hospital.” There was a wave of uncertainty in her voice as she spoke, feeling horribly vulnerable in that moment as Tyverus turned to face her. A chill ran down her spine as she saw his smirk and the longing in his eyes which seemed to hold a savage edge, tempered with anger and fear. Her question hung between them as his gaze held hers before his quiet answer came to her down the hall, “Yes.” Suddenly she felt a thrill warm her heart as he stood there, her happiness flashing with a bright smile, encouraged by his willingness to face the crowds with her, a giggle escaped Astrias as she thought of the invitation she had seen, feeling awkward at having to ask her husband to accompany her. “Then I must get ready.” She caught the flick of his brows raising as she turned to head back towards their bedroom, Azuriann’s words echoing in her mind as she felt relief wash over her, ~ “You both are in great need of each other, now more than ever.” ~ She did not know what the evening would bring but she was determined to spend it by his side and in good spirits.

The Terror of Trolls
There was a flurry of activity in the Hospital, Astrias stepped away from the raised voices as the discussion became heated yet she couldn’t help feeling responsible for the fuss. She did her best to ignore them as her thoughts turned to pin the feeling to an action that she could not recall. Suddenly the voices moved closer and she turned to see the group exiting the Hospital, she remained unmoving at the top of the stairs where she had felt the best place to be if anyone approached for aid or query. Scowling elves and a familiar troll who seemed to hover too close to a viciously smirking elf for her own comfort paused at the bottom of the steps, the heated discussion still roping them together.
Suddenly Tyverus was there, whispering something to her as he looked at the crowd with confusion, his words were lost to her as her attention snapped back on the troll who had raised his staff and began performing some kind of ritual. “Craaweh fu italaf. Craaweh fu Iyaz!” Immediately her hands moved defensively across her growing stomach, warnings from her childhood screaming in her mind as she watched the staff rattle and twisted under the direction of the lanky troll. The weight of her ears pinning back brought the rush of terror surging through to tense her muscles as she prepared to defend herself and her child, the tension visible in the tremors that ran across her skin and lighted her olive gaze with gold. A gentle touch interrupted her focus for a moment as her husband tried to comfort her, she felt the warm magics of the Light come to her silent call, the rest of the elves moved away from the stairs to leave her facing the troll whose chanting continued, “Caang ir dim wasSa ting j yudo skam fu..”
The baby kicked violently in response to her tension, ripping a cry from Astrias’ lips as the pain seared through her terror which fueled the need to defend herself. “Dim yudo craaweh iyaz weh mek!” The strange language rose higher as the troll’s incantation caught his fervor, the staff he waved coated with what appeared to be black water swung violently around him. “Sca cyaa weh skam is cyaa!” The words echoed in her mind as she watched the troll turn and climb the stairs, bile rose in her throat as he inched closer the smell of his sweat along with the unexpected scent of tundra berries twisting her stomach. “NO!” She screamed as the troll settled on top the last step, his orange gaze boring into her framed by blue and white paint that added to the intimidation she felt. The blazing energy of the Light she had reached for surged through her tense body, her olive gaze consumed by it’s brilliant glow as her head exploded with pain. Grating shards of her mental defences erupted as panic overwhelmed her and the spell was released upon the threat.
Astrias watched in horror as her fractured concentration of the spell only grazed the troll’s arm as he raised them to retaliate, she backed away from him only to encounter the pillar of the archway barring her escape. “No.” She breathed, pleading as her hands clutched her stomach. The rising warmth of the Light preparing for another assault as her thoughts writhed, struggling as they were isolated and suspended on the spikes her subconscious triggered to contain her stress. The troll leered closer and she could make out three large diagonal scars over his left eye under the war paint, she stared wide-eyed in shock as she trembled in anticipation of his attack which exploded in a cloud of sand that was blown into her face.
“Leave her alone!” Tyverus’ voice rose as she felt him move away from her. “No!” The word carried a wave of tormented agony as she slapped her face to brush away the blinding powder, "Astrias.. yah seein’ my h-aaaaan." The troll's heavy accent spoke orcish and she recognized it from one who lingered around the Hospital before the sound of shattering glass reached her ears. “Listen mon.... she was burnin up... I 'ad to be doin somtin.... She should be fallin’ soon... be sure tah be catchin 'er..” Astrias pressed herself further against the pillar, she wobbled in her uncertainty and blindness as her thoughts struggled to connect. "No." She responded as she heard Jinzah speaking as though he was walking away from her. "Tyverus." She whispered as she swayed again, fear and terror bringing tears down her cheeks as well as a shaking to her voice. "I'm not yah enemy mon..." Sounds became distant as she felt her movements slow, her hands fumbling as she tried to clear the grit from her eyes, she knew the pillar was solid and let it guide her to the ground. ~ Tyverus.. protect.. our son.. ~ She was out before her body hit the ground.

Phantom Returns
The house appeared warm and inviting as Astrias approached, she paused in front of the door for a moment as she calmed her breathing, moving beyond the threshold she was greeted by dirty boot prints that led her eyes toward the table and then on towards a chair where a pack rested against it. The smell of him lingered in the air and she paused to take in the strange smoke, forest, and cold. Her brows swooped low as her happiness filled her heart, “Phantom.” She whispered, her hands cupping her growing belly as she sighed before looking around the room again.
The sword on the table was her first clue that what had transpired in the Hospital hadn’t been some hallucination. ~ Illusions don’t bring things home with them. ~ The thought brought a smile to her lips as she moved closer to study it. Astrias hesitated to touch the plain scabbard, her brows tugging together as she realized it was not the one he had left with. She focused on the pace of her heart as she recalled what had greeted her at the Hospital.
~
The night had passed slowly and it wasn’t until Astrias heard the birds stir that she realized she’d spend the entire night studying the reports that Miss Dawnbringer had presented about the Thorn research for review by the Hospital. A sigh escaped her as she silently chastised herself for denying herself rest and the weight of her exhaustion pressed itself over her, sealing the reports along with her notes before she left the office. The Hospital was quiet and she took a moment to enjoy the soft morning light before her attention was drawn to a figure that offered a quiet greeting, she stretched her back to ease the discomfort of sitting for so long and allow the baby room as she glanced over at the elf. Her hands moved to cover her growing belly and press against her eyes as amazement of her tiredness crossed her mind, “Dear child, we truly do need some sleep.”
“Astrias.” Pages of the book she had read about what changes she would undergo during the pregnancy flashed in her mind, seeking any support to hallucinations. “I’m home.” Looking at the figure she saw the russet hair she adored flow across armor she was unfamiliar with, emotions surged as she looked at him, happiness carrying the weight of worry. From the depths of her subconsciousness the eruption of a defensive shard rose to face the threat of stress that would rise from the worry, it struggled to dampen her hope as it filled her heart. Caution smoothed the small smile before her brows swooped low again as she named the illusion. “Tyverus.”

Broken
~ Where is Tyverus? .. How is Tyverus? .. Have you heard from Tyverus? ... Any news of your husband? .. Give him my best regards. ~ A sickening reel of greetings and snippets of conversations she had with elves they both knew spun in her head and each time he was brought to topic it struck through her heart and sparked worried thoughts to feed her stress.
The door to their house loomed in front of her, how many times had she opened it with hope filling her heart? Astrias watched her hand rise before her to turn the handle, some part of her mind noted that it was unusually pale but her focus was spiralling back to the reason she had been summoned back into the City and why she felt so rigidly focused. Doctor Ab’Adiania had called for her, nothing specific was mentioned and Astrias tried to ignore the growing uneasiness she had felt settle over her in the morning flare up as she entered the Hospital.
~
“Astrias, have you heard from Ty?” The Director’s question seemed hesitant, as though she was careful with the placement of her words. Astrias had braced herself, the foreboding feeling crushing itself around her heart as she lifted her chin slowly to offer her small smile. “I received a letter from him quite recently.” She watched Azuriann’s expression carefully as the hesitation showed itself again, this was the news she dreaded and she felt the tide of despair rise to consume her. From the depths of her mind a shard burst through to sever the emotion. “What is it?” Realizing that the Doctor was being considerate of her feelings, Astrias forced herself to smile as she listened to the response. “Ty was injured, and though I do not know how bad, he is recovering.” Another erupting shard shredded through a line of stress as the script of his letter flashed before her inner eye. ~ There is much to tell you.. ~
Azuriann’s movement brought her focus back to their conversation as she watched her friend kneel beside her, her smile had vanished and her voice rose without any inflection of emotion. “Injuries.. happen.. in war.” A creeping cold ran across her skin as she frantically clung to the logic that she had used, she felt her face smooth as the dark haired elf spoke further, the words lost to her as she struggled to keep her composure and only fading in as a tear broke her stoic expression. “Now, do I have your blessing to help your husband?” Rage flared as she heard the words, a defensive spear rising again to deter the emotion shattered against it, fracturing her focus enough to refrain from snapping at what she knew was not intended as an insult.
Determination hardened her expression, “What I would give to tell you yes but I cannot.” Astrias pushed herself from the chair and sharpened her gaze on her friend. “What I would give to go there myself.” Crisp logic ruled her tongue as she straightened her shoulders, gaining confidence as her doubts and worries were barricaded within the depths of her consciousness. “He wished that I would not worry and I will not. I know that he is alive. I know that he will return.” She suppressed the urge to bolt for the door, to remove herself from this moment as guilt for treating her friend so frigidly was quickly swept aside with yet another defensive coil of thought. “Astrias, you don’t always have to be so strong, I want you to know I am here for you.” Guilt raked at her heart and snaked through her strained thoughts as she moved away from the crystal healer, she paused to offer the only smile she could manage. “We must all do our part.. no matter the cost. Thank you, though you of all know what many give to remain strong.” Dropping her gaze to look at the fabric that covered her growing stomach her voice rose again quietly, “I have every reason to remain strong.”
~
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she looked around their house, her breathing loud in her ears as tremors shook her body, her mental defenses had retreated as she was recalling the conversation. Now her thoughts fumbled to make sense of themselves as her emotions twisted around the words the ranger had sent her. “He is not here!” Her scream filled the usual silence, rage filled Astrias as she stood in the middle of the house. Fury kindled by the torrent of emotions that ran rampant, spinning wildly before fading and sparking again. She felt helpless and alone as the sobs caused her body to spasm, choking back tears as she tried to calm herself only to be crushed by the weight of her insignificance again and again. Azuriann’s words came back to her, ~ “Astrias, you don’t always have to be so strong.” ~ She shook hysterically as she sank to the ground, her hands cupping her growing belly as the muscles in her chest tightened and brought physical pain. ~ What strength do I have? None! ~ She chastised herself with silent screams that flitted around her hectic mind, ~ He is strong.. gone to face such a threat.. gone away from.. me. ~ She struggled for breath as she twisted her robes violently. ~ I’ve not set foot on a battlefield in years! And even then..! ~ Images of Icecrown rose to present her with a memory of Argent banners ripped by the wind surround her as she rushed between rows of wounded. ~ I was not on the front. ~ An array of thoughts and memories built to beat her with the realization of her incompetence, its despair fed poisonous thoughts of self loathing which turned to resentment.
Astrias clapped her hands to her mouth as she stifled another scream that rose in her throat and lasted for what seemed like ages until her breath ran out again and she sat crumpled and gasping. A sickeningly gleeful thought sent a thank you to the Light that she was in the privacy of their home, her mind snatched the trailing thought and she jerked her head up to look around her only to find her focus on a glass vase that sat on a table across the room.
“YOU FOOLISH CHILD!” Lady Sunsorrow’s voice rang in her ears as she stared at the shattered vase, she didn’t remember moving off the floor or even crossing the room. It was that vicious tone that snapped her attention to her actions. “I am not a child.” Her voice was firm as she spoke to the empty room and the unexpected image of her Great Aunt which lingered in her thoughts, her hands curled to fists to emphasize her determination. Reaching for the fount of energy within herself she felt its warmth and let the anger sharpen her direction of the Light, slowly the broken pieces of glass lifted off the floor and moved toward her. She concentrated harder as the defensive shards from earlier erupted from the recesses of her consciousness to barricade the whirling emotions and memories, “I will be strong.” The whisper left her lips as she let another flare of energy aim itself at the vase she reconstructed in front of her, illuminating the room in bright light as searing heat turned the clear glass a brilliant yellow then deep orange.
As the Light flowed through her she felt it’s eagerness and happiness as it trailed itself across her body, all worry was pushed from her focus and enclosed by the white-hot shards that were mimicked in front of her as the vase was made whole again and sank towards the floor, the newly reformed edges of each piece of the vase reflecting the arrangement of her thoughts. She smiled brightly as she thought of the vase, all that it could hold and portray with the flowers it held, ~ Thoughts and intentions.. ~ Guilt slithered its depressing essence into a carefully designed capsule which was instantly sealed by the Light as it travelled through to perform her will.
“I will shine!” Blinding golden white cascaded around her and she stepped away from what she thought was the source, her foot caught on the edge of the carpet and she threw out her arms as she felt herself fall. There was no fear or worry in the moment before she landed, somehow she knew that the baby would be safe, that there were things that she could do while she waited for him to arrive, that she could do them on her own. The room turned black as she connected with the carpet, letting herself lean back and let the exhaustion temper the clarity she felt and she knew when she woke in the morning that she would have no worries, that she had a place for them in the palace of glowing glass in her mind.
