#Repost @richard.beland ・・・ 20 years ago, September 1, 2001 I was an hour from Dublin photographing U2 at Slane Castle. This adventure to Ireland was significant for me as well because I was only back in Toronto a few days short of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The grounds for the concert are built into a natural amphitheatre located just below the actual castle. After I finished shooting I took a walk up the hill to the castle so I could get a wide view of the 80000+ crowd. I wasn't there for more than a few minutes and two security guards rushed over and quickly ushered me aside. Just before we walked away they turned us around and looked up, unknowingly I was casting a massive shadow on the castle and they were concerned it could end up in the video! Luckily that part ended up in the cutting room floor! I spent the day after the show walking around Dublin visiting every used record store I could locate... in pursuit of the subway poster (swipe ↔️). I was told only 100 were made and as a memorabilia collector, I wanted one. My persistence paid off and I carried it (it’s at least 5” tall) back to Canada where it now adorns a wall in my basement. Here are a handful of photos from the show.
