Why The U.A. Sports Festival Shouldn't Exist
my hero academia has a bit of a hard to follow timeline, but i imagine that the sports festival takes place within the first month of two of school from what we've seen - which is the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard, especially when given context.
the sports festival seems to mainly exist for two reasons: 1) to show off the students & their quirks & 2) to give the opportunity that anyone whose not in the hero course can show their potential in the case they would like to transfer.
going off the first reason for the sports festival, it's really unethical to broadcast these students and their quirks when they haven't even had the chance to make a name for themselves yet. hell, they don't even have hero names to go by yet.
and when you rememeber that the attack on class 1-a at the usj took place around two weeks prior to this, it becomes even more unsafe to do this because it's giving the villains all the information they could possibly need about the students. 1) it shows them all of their names and their faces, 2) the names of their quirks, how they work, and how far they can take them before they suffer drawbacks, 3) who the most talented/strongest are (typically the winners of the festival).
it just doesn't make any sense for them to give out vital information on the students that nobody else knows yet, and which is already important to keep a secret as it could put the students in harms way. remember when the league said that bakugou displayed villainous tendencies during the festival? yeah, would've been helpful if they didn't see that.
now for the second reason about giving non-hero students the chance to transfer. in my opinion, this just shows how useless the entrance exam was if it means a student who should be in the hero couse didn't make it.
we already know that the exam is bias against students who don't have combat quirks, and even though we've seen students like hagakure in the hero course, she's 1/36 students who passed (as 4 of them were recommendations).
so in short - the sports festival is unsafe AND proves that u.a. already has shit policies. it would make much more sense if it was a private event for the students, and maybe even their families, where they have the hero students work against other classes and obstacles to see what they could improve on and if any other students have input on how to improve the hero course.
