Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words and the start frame of this routine couldn’t fit this description any better. While Nikita sits comfortably in his armchair, tilting his head jovially from side to side and illuminated by the blue light coming from his TV, Olga stands right next to him in the darkness, stiff and stationary, serving as a light switch for his convenience. She continues to provide help for the most basic things like helping him with his coat or getting used like a stool for him to rest his feet on while tying his shoelaces. Despite this Nikita hardly takes notice of her and even rejects her when she seeks affection, causing her to retaliate and deny her service in a passive-agressive fashion. When he gets up to leave, Olga clutches at him like there’s no tomorrow. As the music grows increasingly dissonant Olga becomes more desperate and even violent, indicating that she’s unwilling to put up with his behavior and getting treated like this any longer. This seems to cause Nikita to rethink his actions and the lampshade she had pulled down to defend herself with turns into a symbol of prospective children and them starting a family as a way to regain the love that has been lost during their relationship. It’s a very optimistic take on a situation that often is too far-gone in reality to get fixed so easily, but it’s a heart-warming thought nevertheless.
