What is going on where 3 art schools have all closed so far just this year. My old school university of the arts, the phila academy of fine arts and the Delaware college of art and design. Which is crazy that it’s all happening at once.

Hello I am alive.
Time and socials move different in the wake of one’s university suddenly closing down. Now I’m on a completely different life path in a completely different place. Still making art
Hoping to start making more fanart like i used to but life has a way of throwing me curveballs
Here’s a sketch dump in the meantime
I'm going back to my art school days because one of the biggest art schools in the region is straight up shuttering. There's been no notification other than a tiny announcement on their webpage. Students got tuition bills for the next semester, the school gave diplomas to their graduates and 24 hours later in a single sentence on their website half-announced it's closing. President and all her cronies are resigning like rats fleeing a sinking ship. Class Action shit is sharpening the knives.
My school had a friendly competition, a good relationship with UArts. It was an amazing school and any student or grad from there was guaranteed to be a reliable worker and amazing artist. Now it's just fucking gone and my colleagues I've known for 15 years (and are now faculty of UArts themselves!) are just sort of walking around stunned.
With the rise of AI and management running these prestigious spaces like they're CEOs of a Silicon Valley startup it's depressing. Fuck lenders and fuck CEOs and fuck all this.
Arts Education is a public good and a requirement for a healthy society. It doesn't have to be this way.
response to some upsetting event
If I could change it,
I would
But I can’t.
And life moves…
I won’t say that it moves on though.
Its motion is more like a winding, snaked path
Each bend becoming more drastic than the last
Till all you leave behind is a tangled mess.
And you take that mess.
That mess is what you show others
We all parade around with our tied up garden snakes,
Holding them up to one another
Proclaiming:
Here
This is me
This is who I am
There are many snakes like my snake
But this snake
And its knots
Are uniquely mine.
Uniquely mine-
Sometimes we hate that individualism;
We want to untangle our snakes and retie them
Into some other more fashionable cordage,
But each time we try
And untangle
Our little snake screams out:
No,
This is you
And you are me
Unraveling our bonds will only unfurl the banners
That you hold
So close to your heart.
So we keep our snakes tangled
Even though our friendly contortionist may hurt
We keep our snake wiggling in pain
Because eventually
The pain will go away-
We will learn to accept our shape
And develop even more
Magnificence
Even more
Cacophony
Even more
Bloodthirst
Even more
Conviviality.
Knots.
And each knot adds to that
wondrous weave that we call
“me”
For we are not just a snake tangled into a mess
But a creature cursed
To crawl onto its belly
And make the best of it
So make the best of it
We shall
Hiss towards the sun
Curse your Zeus and seek lightning
And feel the warmth of their embrace.
I'm seeing Comet at Philly's UArts on the 17th!

Found this enormous poster sized photograph I’m in, of The University of the Arts @uarts Photography Class of 1998 shot by the great Gabe Martinez @gabejmartinez. Shot, I think, on the roof of the Anderson building, which used to house the photography dept. I tagged some of the people i could find. #RIPMelissaForgione #wheresjosh #univesityofthearts #photographydepartment #classof1998 #uarts #uartsphoto #iminthebackinthedarksweater (at The University of the Arts) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaVEtVdlGmu/?utm_medium=tumblr
This month is the 4 year anniversary of my graduation from college and the completion of my senior thesis, “Bhogavati: Kingdom of the Naga”. For those of you who remember, the first image was a doodle I made shortly after it premiered. I decided to celebrate by doing a redraw of the kids and update their designs a bit.
If you haven’t seen it yet, you can view my thesis here on vimeo
