back in the day (2007) Classic Media released an Underdog website to promote their new (at the time) "Ultimate Underdog Collection"

most of it doesn't work anymore, but what DOES work is the about section, which gives you a little overview of the characters. it's pretty solid up until you actually look at Underdog/Shoeshine's portions.

it calls Underdog a beagle (and might be the origin of it), and specifically points out that he has an enhanced sense of smell.

...but most notably, it says that Shoeshine transforms in a mailbox!
