Another Counter Argument to a Blaine Fan who counter-argumented a lol blaine post
I thought I'd make this a separate post for tagging too. Because I ended up spending far more time on it than I'd originally intended!
So, the first lol klaine post is here XX
The Blaine stan counter argument is here XX

why i dont care for blaine anderson
1. He stifled Kurt’s originality at Dalton
Um – no he didn’t. In fact, Blaine picked Kurt to sing a duet with at Regionals and then dragged him into the spotlight for the applause after the fact.
Well, actually he kind of did. To the point where in the episode where they finally get together, Kurt himself commented on it. True, he arranged for Kurt to have the audition for the solo when he first started at Dalton, but he did that whole ‘put your arms down’ movement during it, which would have really been off-putting in the middle of an audition. He then went on to tell Kurt that he needed to be a team player. Mind you, he told this to Kurt - who’d just spent 18 months swaying in the background for another team, I think he knows how to be a part of the team! Aside from that, it didn’t really make sense because in what way had Kurt demonstrated that he didn’t understand teamwork? He made a suggestion during a meeting and then performed in the audition to which he was invited, hardly the actions of someone intent on hogging the spotlight. In fact, his only comments about the meeting earlier were that it wasn’t worse, just different and he would get used to it. He’d already showed his willingness to adapt.
You bring up the duet at Regionals. That’s a murky area, to be honest, because even though Kurt had said at the beginning of the episode that he felt like Blaine was hogging the spotlight, Blaine didn’t really show any interest in doing anything about that until after he’d decided he wanted to get into Kurt’s pants. He even admitted that to Kurt when he told him that he’d ‘chosen him’ to sing the duet with, (not because he was a good singer etc), but because he saw it as an opportunity to spend more time with him. I was surprised at the time that as fierce a performer as Kurt wasn’t kind of offended by that at the time, but he’s young and he had a crush on Blaine.
2. He was insensitive towards kurts feelings and messed with him by singing about sex toys to Jeremiah
Blaine was not insensitive to Kurt’s feelings as Blaine did not know about Kurt’s crush at the time and Blaine admitted to not being good at romance. He picked a poor choice in song – big deal. You’re the one choosing to single out one line of the song. The song was NOT about sex toys. Blaine apologized to Kurt at the end of that episode and said he didn’t want to mess things up as he cared about Kurt.
I will give you this one. Because, yes, Blaine wasn’t aware of Kurt’s feelings, although you could say (as Kurt did) ‘what was Kurt supposed to think when they sang flirty duets together and went out a lot together and something about coffee orders’. But let’s just say that Blaine was oblivious here and leave it at that. And like you, I’ve never given a fuck about the whole ‘sex toys’ thing in that song. So, it seems a Blaine stan and a lol Blainer can find a point of agreement. Although, I wouldn’t say that Blaine apologized at the end of the episode… it was more that Kurt confessed how he felt and Blaine friendzoned him, whilst leaving just that little ‘when Harry met Sally’ sliver of hope.
3. He compared him to a caged bird who died
Compared him to a caged bird? Okay someone might wanna help me out with this. When did Blaine say Kurt was like a caged bird? Example?
To be honest, I don’t get this one either. I think what the op is saying is that Blaine didn’t really fall for Kurt until he sang about the dead bird. Which, you know, fine, it was a bit sudden the way he suddenly realized how he felt but it does happen. I’ve done it myself that quickly - although singing wasn’t involved.
5. He treats Kurt like a child.
Examples? How? Blaine encouraged him to go to NY and fight for his dreams, encouraged him to stand up for himself (Courage). How is that treating him like a child? I mean, really. If you’re gonna hate on someone at least have more concrete reasons with actual examples to back it up. This is not one.
Considering what followed I don’t know that using ‘Blaine encouraged him to go to NY to follow his dreams’ is really a good example.
I’ll provide you with the examples you want further down.
But first, you’ve brought up the whole ‘courage’ thing. It amazes me that you can’t see how dangerous Blaine’s advice to ‘call him out’ was. Considering that Blaine himself had had problems with being ‘bullied’ it always surprised me that he gave that advice - but lets look at the motivation behind it. Basically he wanted Kurt to do what he hadn’t had the ‘courage’ to do himself, it wasn’t about what was right or safe for Kurt, it was about what Blaine wanted to happen and validating himself. Now imagine if Karofsky’s problem hadn’t been his own conflicted feelings about being gay and being attracted to Kurt. He could have really hurt Kurt, he could have even killed him and if I’d been Kurt’s parent and I’d found out that some preppy little kid had told my son to ‘confront’ someone who had already been violent towards him, especially instead of talking to me, I would have been bloody furious! So yeah, I’ll give Blaine props for sending a few supportive ‘courage’ texts, not that it took much effort, but the advice he gave? Major fucking fail. If he’d really been invested, he would have asked Kurt how supportive his parents were and then advised him to talk to Burt, perhaps even gone with him to do so.
Other examples - the whole ‘put your hand down’ thing during Kurt’s audition and the patronising ‘part of a team’ crap afterwards. Pretty much the entire ‘sexy’ episode. A few instances of ‘suppressing Kurt’s enthusiasm’ in the ND choir room - eg. when he announces the senior president thing, and there was some joke about ‘Jesus Christ’ that I remember too.
A big one I remember noticing at the time the episode aired was the way he says ‘why are you so upset?” in such a condescending way after they confront Karofsky. I remember thinking at the time ‘wtf? why wouldn’t he be upset?’
After Kurt runs out in the prom queen episode Blaine asks him if he wants to leave in a very bored, condescending tone of voice.
I’ll be honest though, I don’t think it’s so much treating Kurt as a child, it’s more patronising him and then acting like a child himself. That’s the problem I have with Blaine. Well, one of them anyway.
6. He didn’t stand up for Kurt or understand his feelings when he was voted PROM QUEEN as a prank
**Sigh** Um – Blaine most certainly did support Kurt when the school pranked him. He ran out of the gym immediately after Kurt, sat with him in the hallway saying they could leave if that’s what Kurt wanted and LISTENED to Kurt. And when Karofsky left him standing alone for the King/Queen dance it was Blaine – who pushed his own fears aside – and joined him in the middle of the dance floor and asked Kurt to dance. How is that not standing up for Kurt or understanding his feelings?
Yup, I’ll give you that, he did run out after Kurt ran out. But as I mentioned above, sitting on the floor and making bored, condescending remarks isn’t exactly supportive. In the end, it was Kurt who made the choice himself from his own stream of thoughts, and I assume Blaine listened. He may have been thinking about nailpolish for all I know.
Now, when this episode aired I actually still quite liked Blaine - there had been a few moments when I’d thought ‘huh?’ but I thought he was kind of a cute idiot or something. But I noticed this moment, the impatience in his voice when spoke to Kurt - and it was another step in the direction of realizing that Blaine’s a bit of a douche really.
But, yes, that moment where he stepped up and danced with Kurt was sweet.
7. He told Karofsky that Kurt told him about the kiss and confronted/tried to out him in a public setting without Kurt’s permission
Okay, we must not be watching the same show. Blaine encouraged Kurt to stand up for himself (Courage) and when Karofsky hate kissed Kurt – without Kurt’s permission, mind you – he was more than okay with Blaine coming to McKinley (“Thanks for coming”). He told Blaine what happened (“Kurt told me what you did”). Blaine most certainly did have Kurt’s permission to be there.
I've already talked about Blaine's misguided advice above. I agree that he was there with Kurt’s permission and I also agree that they were both okay with confronting him in a public place, perhaps they felt it would be safer. I think Kurt was generally all about not forcibly outing people, but this was an instance where his confusion over what had happened made him act without fully thinking it through. I’ll just say - that Blaine took this opportunity to stick up for Kurt - but he wasn’t exactly sympathetic afterward. That ‘why are you so upset?’ moment really grated with me.
8. He pressured Kurt into having sex with him so he could better understand a role in a play
Pressured Kurt to have sex with him to better understand a role in a play? No, that was Rachel – she even admitted it to Finn. Blaine never said such a thing. (See # 10 for further notes)
Ah, yeah he did. It was quite clear the issue was on his mind. That was his motivation for seeing Sebastian again because at the end of the scene where they first met, when Sebastian walks away and the camera goes to Blaine’s face, it’s very clear that he’s aware that Sebastian likes him and is flirting with him, and his expression shows conflicted feelings about that. And yet, he then chooses to go ahead and meet Sebastian again at the Lima Bean - and it’s this scene that made me feel that it was never ‘out of character’ for Blaine to cheat on Kurt later. Because he’d already come close - he knew that Sebastian was flirting, and he knew that it would be 'easy' to have sex with him and get it out of the way, and he chose to meet him again - and his reaction when Kurt found them was guilt.
Later on he ‘apologises’ to Rachel for ‘letting her down’ and not having sex. That seems pretty clear to me, that part of his sudden need to have sex was because of the situation with Rachel and the play.
9. He called Kurt unsexy and said he looks like he has gas pains when he’s dancing
Kurt himself said he knew nothing about sex and called himself a baby penguin. Blaine tried to help Kurt with his sexy faces…tried to help Kurt understand sex a little bit better out of concern for Kurt as evidenced by his conversation with Burt. If you wanna hate on someone because they described someone in a way you don’t like then you must really hate Santana.
Look, I’ve never had a problem with the whole ‘gas pains’ thing - it was tactless but not malicious in any way and I think he did want to help Kurt. I do have a big issue with his going to Burt behind Kurt’s back, and I think if Kurt knew about it, he’d have an issue with it too. But considering the way they wrote Blaine’s objections to ‘sexy’ performances when Sam came back, and then the whole twerking/grinding on people thing later, I chalk this up to the writers usual inconsistences. Basically this whole episode is stupid and really only exists so they could write the one good scene, which was Burt’s talk to Kurt. So, this is an episode where I tend to let Blaine off the hook… and spend my time more profitably with admiring the ridiculous faces that Chris Colfer can pull.
10. He tried to forcibly have sex with Kurt after he had repeatedly told him NO and excused this by saying he was drunk (off one beer)
First off, Blaine was drunk. He had more than one beer. Blaine said he had one beer and Kurt responded sarcastically with “yeah, sure”, clearly indicating Blaine had had more than one. Secondly, Blaine wanted to express his love for Kurt, he was feeling “randy” (script’s words) and the second Kurt felt that it was the wrong time, Kurt got out of the car and Blaine let him. Blaine did not pull him back in, did not pin him down, did not forcibly do anything to Kurt. Blaine later apologized for his behavior. And it was KURT that suggested going back to Blaine’s house after the play. (Watch 5.08 if you want to see someone try to force Kurt into something - warning, the result is Kurt being left bound and gagged when Kurt said NO)
First off, Blaine wasn’t so drunk that he couldn’t formulate his ‘spontaneity’ argument and storm off afterwards, and if, god forbid, someone ever treats you in that way, I’m sure (or I hope) that you won’t use ‘they were drunk’ to excuse their behaviour. Look, if you go by the absolute legal definition of this scene it is sexual assault. Blaine was attempting to kiss Kurt when he didn’t want to be kissed, and he was restraining him. Yes, Kurt was ‘on top’ but it’s pretty clear he’s struggling with Blaine’s grabby hands. He says NO, not once, but multiple times and Blaine did not let him go. It wasn’t a case of ‘the second that Kurt felt it was the wrong time he got out of the car and Blaine let him’. Kurt said ‘no’ and ‘stop’ multiple times whilst Blaine was grabbing at him - Kurt then lost his temper and shoved himself backwards out of the car. I honestly cannot understand how this is not clear to you. That’s exactly the way the scene plays out.
Whatever Kurt’s motivations for agreeing to have sex with Blaine later, I don’t know, but the fact remains that it was not Blaine who approached Kurt to apologise as he absolutely should have - it was Kurt who approached him and then initiated a conversation. I really wish he hadn’t, but it was his choice to do so.
As for the ‘sexy santa’ thing - you don’t get to use that to explain how Blaine’s behaviour wasn’t bad. They were both bad. I will say that whatever happened sexually between Kurt and the Santa it was made clear that it was consensual - when Kurt did say no to something in particular, Santa then tied him up to rob the house, not to sexually assault him. They’re both bad - but they’re not the same.
11. He auditioned for Tony and got the part knowing Kurt wanted it and having agreed to not audition with it
Blaine never said that he would not audition for Tony. He said he was going to audition for Bernardo or Officer Krupke. It was only after he auditioned for either of these parts that Artie, Bieste and Emma suggested Tony for Blaine AFTER laughing Kurt out of his audition and saying he wasn’t manly enough. Kurt brought Blaine flowers afterwards saying that even he agreed that Blaine would be the better Tony.
Actually he did make it clear to Kurt during the dance rehearsal that he wouldn’t audition for Tony. He then proceeded to audition with a Tony song. What did he think would happen? Cute little tactic to get his own way, no? So, it was pretty cool that Kurt was the bigger man there and let him get away with it. The fact that Blaine thought that Kurt might ‘zag’ meant that he thought that Kurt might be justifiably pissed off… considering that he’d been the one to say he wouldn’t audition for the role, Kurt hadn’t asked him not to. (And if Kurt had asked Blaine not to audition - I would have been pissed off with Kurt for doing that - the whole thing was just so dumb really)
12. He fucking cheated on him 13. With some guy he met on Facebook 14. And then had the audacity to blame it on Kurt for not being there for him 15. Even though he told Kurt he wanted him to get out of Lima and follow his dreams
These final points all combine to one so I’ll only address it once. Blaine cheated on Kurt because the writers are asshats and threw Blaine under the bus. Blaine cheating – who felt like Kurt was cheating with texts to Chandler – was totally out of character. The writers are lazy and do not know how to write couple drama without cheating. And if you want to hate Blaine for cheating then you must hate practically every character on the show. Santana admitted in S2 that she was a serial cheater. Finn cheated on Quinn, Quinn cheated on Finn and Sam, Rachel cheated on Finn, Jake cheated on Marley. Do you see the pattern? You can’t hate one character for doing something that nearly every other character has already done. And Blaine supported Kurt in following his dreams by encouraging him to go to NY (not because he wanted to “get him out of Lima”). That is a good character trait for Blaine. And while cheating is not the answer, Kurt is not totally blameless either. Kurt was ignoring Blaine – the ignored phone call, not listening to Blaine talk about his presidential campaign. Kurt shares responsibility. Neither is blameless in it. And Blaine had the wherewithal to fly to NY immediately and confess to Kurt. He didn’t have to…Kurt would have never known but Blaine chose to be honest with Kurt. Another good character trait.
As I’ve stated above, after the whole Sebastian thing, I didn’t think it was out of character for Blaine to cheat. I do hate that cheating features so much on this show, but there’s an interesting difference between the way the others have cheated and the way Blaine cheated. The others cheated when they were conflicted in their feelings, when they felt obligated to one relationship, but were developing feelings for someone else. Yes, they could have resolved those situations without cheating, but their emotions were invested and conflicted.
So, why did Blaine cheat? Because two weeks after encouraging Kurt to go to New York he felt neglected and he threw a hissy fit and stormed off and slept with someone he hardly knew. That’s what it boils down to.
Normally I’d agree with you that it takes two to tango when someone ends up cheating. But I find it hard to apportion blame to Kurt here. In the timeline, he’d been there for two maybe three weeks… he was trying to find somewhere to live, somewhere to work, and trying to focus on getting back into Nyada. He ignored a phone call at work, well big fucking deal. Grow up, and realise that most of the time they don’t like it when you take personal calls at work - particularly when your new boss is standing right in front of you! And I bet Kurt called Blaine back the first moment he could. In fact in the break-up episode it’s Kurt who calls Blaine - it’s obvious that even though he’s busy he’s trying to make the time for Blaine. As for the sacred presidential bow-tie, Kurt’s excited about the new job that’s going to allow him to eat and pay his rent, you think Blaine could have been more supportive and patient? Maybe waited another two weeks to see if Kurt’s life settled down a bit (as it would have) before he threw a tantrum and fucked someone else? Or, I don’t know, actually talked to Kurt about it? Relationships have an ebb and flow, sometimes one partner needs support and focus for a while, and then the other does. It’s give and take. Yeah, I don’t have any sympathy for Blaine. You could get away with the ‘kurt ignoring him’ excuse if Kurt had been ignoring him and unsupportive for months and months or for the history of their relationship. But it had been two/three weeks whilst he was settling in New York, and he’d still been actually talking to and spending time with Blaine (remember the popcorn/watching tv scene?).
Oh and kudos for having the ‘honesty’ to admit he cheated when he ‘didn’t have to’. He flew all the way to NY as a surprise to do it too. Just imagine how much more pleasant it would have been if he’d just flown there to surprise his boyfriend, instead of waiting till after he cheated. Oh, and not only that, it gives him the opportunity to blame Kurt as well. But, yeah, he was honest, so honest, that later on when they get back together he says that he cheated because he thought Kurt was ‘done with him’ that they were over. If that’s the case, why did he feel the need to fly to NY and ‘confess’ to Kurt that he’d cheated on him? Yeah, he knew they were still boyfriends.
16. THE CREEPY ASS PUPPET EPISODE. enough said.
I think the real issue here is that you didn’t like a Blaine-centered episode. Blaine was missing his fiancé and chose to make a puppet of him in crafts class. I think that was cute. The overall plot was due to a gas leak at McKinley. You can blame the writers for that – not Blaine.
Don’t have much to say about the puppet episode do you? Neither do I. Blaine was as creepy as fuck in that episode - mind you, I think as he’d prefer to be engaged to the puppet, I’d really prefer that to.
As for cute - I’ll give you this. I did think the ‘I heard that moment’ was cute and well-done. I also thought the ‘kurt-puppet’ grabby hands moment when Sue took the puppet was cute too. In a three-year old kind of way.
17. God there’s so much other shit he’s done he’s just awful don’t look at me
How about having concrete examples to express dislike for a character instead of baseless bullet points? At least with my rebuttals I was able to quote and pull from the episodes for a counter argument.
I was able to do that as well!
