Day Four of “is this pollen and stress, or have daily false negative tests meant that I’ve been unknowingly infecting my family with the plague?”
One of the most annoying things about being An Adult with a well-managed anxiety/mood disorder is going into a depressive/anxious downswing and being like “gdi, now? we have things to do,” and then trying to figure out what combination of self-care activities I need to do this time to speed it up and let it run its course as quickly as possible. Like “okay, I’m feeling my feelings, and addressing the physical symptoms, and doing the stretches and taking the meds; are we done yet? No? Ugh, what if I mow the lawn and take out the trash? Still no?”
Downswings for me usually manifests just epic avoidance of a specific thing that’s really not that big a deal and yet becomes all-consuming, and it’s so annoying when the anxiety lifts and I do the thing and I’m like “seriously? that was it?” but it’s not about doing the thing, it’s about the milieu of stuff build up around the thing, including whatever chemical/physical stuff going on with my neurotransmitters and thought patterns and stuff.
Still. This is all less annoying than the random meltdowns/freeze ups over “nothing” before I started treatments to manage it.
Okay tumblr which of you reblogged that vanity license plate roundup recently because HOLY SHIT did I just find one in the wild to add:
WHAT UP TUMBLR GUESS WHO GOT AN OFFER FOR A JOB SHE THOUGHT SHE’D BEEN PASSED OVER FOR
And also guess who has a final exam tomorrow ugh.
First day at my new job, bitches! Let’s see if I still know how to work (it’s been almost exactly a year).
I am thirty-seven years old and just heard an actual emergency broadcast for the first time, announcing an immediate city-wide curfew, in Seattle, to get protesters to disperse. On top of that, there’s a giant thunderstorm rolling in, which hopefully will convince people to head home.
Stay safe, folks.
Rain last night provided a little psychological relief from the smoke, but there’s no wind so today the air quality index for Seattle is even worse than yesterday.
I also binge-watched The Umbrella Academy, which holy shit 1) is really good and 2) what a fucking mood for 2020. I can’t wait for this timeline to get reset.
Not to be too IRL, but this whole tiktok sea chantey thing is basically a manifestation of my personal hell and the latest installment of a 15-year-long inside joke. I’m super glad that people are discovering a community art form that brings them joy and lessens the feeling of isolation, but GOOD GOD I DO NOT PERSONALLY NEED THIS IN MY LIFE.
