Roleplay: Date. {July 2, 2012} [Part III]
A group of nine or ten young people were putting on a highly energetic and daring series of dance routines, which the audience was eating up. A young man with dark blond hair and argyle suspenders leads the stunts, performing the more perilous acts of the performance.]
!! Cl-Clarance!
[At the call of his name, barely audible between the roars of the crowd and the music (responsible from a dubiously placed stereo), the young man spots a familiar face and leaps from his position in the group, signaling someone else to take his place to continue the show. Elated, he grips Ruby into a grand hug, shaking his hand and speaking fervently. "<What are you doing here?! How have you been, what's the occasion, who's your friend?>"]
[As Ruby gives brief answers to each of Clarance's questions, he introduces Cheren and explains their dining plans. Warmly, Clarance shakes Cheren's hand.
"<It's a joy to meet you-- oh, sorry, my hands are probably terribly sweaty, you both look lovely, I shouldn't, my bad. Have you been having a good time? You're both welcome over any time, I'd love to have you, give you something of a tour-- not you, Ruby, you had the honors long ago.>"]
Cheren: <Pardon--Excuse us--Sorry, he's just really rude, isn't he--> RUBY! [Cheren groaned as he tagged along, but once they were in the front of the crowd, he stopped complaining.] Wow. [He watched the dancing spectacle, surprised by how good they were. Some of the tricks they were pulling were nothing he'd ever seen before. He only snapped out of his intrigue at the sound of Ruby's voice, snapping his head to look at him incredulously.] Clarance!?
[When he looked back at the group, he realized that this Clarance was one of Ruby's friends. No wonder he seemed so curious before. He smiled and watched the two interact, chuckling. He seemed like a really frendly fellow, talking a little fast for him to keep up with. Before he knew it, he was shaking hands with him as well. <O-oh, don't worry about it. Pleasure to meet you as well. Yes, it's rather lovely here--I have to say, you're quite talented! Er, how long have you two known each other?>
ruby: <I actually met him after a contest once, during one of the group's street performances. They're extremely well known around the city.> [Smiling proudly, he pats Clarance on the back. Of his Parisan friends, Clarance was the one he kept in touch with the most.]
["<Not at all! We're pretty popular with the tourists, sure, but I wouldn't call us famous-- that's the dream, right there.>" Clarance grins, humble ambition welling in his chest as he refuses Cheren's compliments. "<Really, it's just a passion. It's what we know how to do well. I'm sure you two understand?>" He beams at the two, though unaware of Cheren's own interests and pursuits.]
ruby: <It's more than that-- it's your life, mate. Be take pride in it, heh. You've come so far; I heard from the others that you were accepted into dance school.> [Ruby gives Clarance's shoulders an encouraging shake, his smile laughing.]
["<Oh, yeah! It was a huge shock, I had to have Gerard open the acceptance envelope for me, I felt so nauseous!>" He grins sheepishly, rubbing his neck. "<Have you two been enjoying the show? Hey Cheren, wanna see your boyfriend do a few tricks?>"]
<Wh-- no! Oh, come on now, I'm so rusty...!>
["<Nonsense! You're a natural, he's /such/ a performer, don't you think?>" He laughs heartily.]
Cheren: [Cheren chuckled.] <Well, with passion like that, you'll get as far as you want to go. Nothing should ever stop you, as long as you have the determination for it.> [He grinned at the news and patted him on the arm.] <Well, there you have it! Congratulations. I'm sure you'll do great.> [Clarance seemed so humbled despite all the great things that seemed to be going well for him. Cheren liked that about him.
He raised an eyebrow at Ruby, smirking. Heh.] <Oh, I sure would, Clarance.> [He cackled.] <No need to be so modest, Ruby! Go! You already pushed yourself through the crowd, might as well!>
ruby: Wh--!!
[Ruby's shouts are drowned out ad Clarance pulls him into the fray, while the group disassembles to follow Clarance's instructions. From afar, Ruby's expression shifted between confusion and refusal, to resignation as they broke to assume formation. Throwing his suit jacket back at Cheren, Ruby takes a place near Clarance as the group forms into a semicircle.] Nngh...
[The act is centered around Clarance, their guest member fitting easily into the group. They constantly broke in and out of formation strategically, synchronized all the same; with each regrouping they were collectively 'controlled' by Clarance, and another member would perform as Clarance's 'puppet,' the manipulations sometimes approaching the audience alarmingly closely, others almost perilously awing. Oh his turn, Clarance 'threw' Ruby across the performing area, eventually 'lifting' the others and conducting them into a complex routine of bodies flying everywhere, all at Clarance's fingertips.]
Cheren: [Snickering, Cheren watched the boys regroup, all too amused at the predicament. Considering how many times Ruby had pulled him into situations on-the-spot, this was a treat. He caught Ruby's jacket and folded it neatly over his arm, giving him a smirk. He was sure that Ruby would be just fine joining in.
And sure enough, he was. Cheren hadn't seen Ruby dance before, and he kept up with the other dancers like he'd been practicing with them for a while. Then again, he should've expected it by now: he was a jack of all trades.
The overall concept of the act was amazing, earning shouts of awe with every daring stunt. Clarance was quite something himself, playing the puppetmaster. The coordination between him and the other members showed a strong connection between the group. They were given well-earned round of applause at the end, sure enough. When Ruby and Clarance approached Cheren again, he was grinning.] <Birds of a feather flock together, it seems. You guys were incredible!>
ruby: [After that segment, the dancers disassembles, Clarance gives a speech of gratitute to the audience as a hat is passed around, receiving donations for the ensemble as the crowd gradually disperses. Ruby lifts himself up and dusts himself off, shooting Clarance a scowl, to which he replied with a sly smile. Trotting grudgingly over to Cheren, Ruby snags his jacket and pulls it on as Clarance follows, a proud grin on his face. "<What did I tell you, he's a natural, right? I knew you could still pull off that routine, heh.>"]
<Because I helped you day and night on it when one of your dancers broke their ankle!> [At the sight of Cheren's smile, his expression softens into a laugh. At some point, he forgot control of what his actions were and began to rely on his muscles, as the memory had gradually returned to him.] <Thank goodness I could pull it off, too. I haven't moved like that in ages...>
ruby: ["<You're growing old, my friend! Promise me you'll keep up with that, alright? Promise me you'll make sure he keeps moving like that, alright?>" He laughs, patting Cheren on the back. "<I'm telling you Ruby, you've got something that you don't wanna lose.>"]
<Coming from you, that's the utmost praise. I'll never be able to catch up to you though, so as long as you keep doing what you do best.>
[A sheepish smile draws across Ruby's face. Waving off the comment, he pats Clarance on the back, which Clarance retuns to him and Cheren. Pulling on his cap, Clarance gives the two a warm smile.]
["<Hey, don't be a stranger, the both of you. We've got another street on the list, but give me a call before the two of you leave, okay? I want to see you two off-- oh, sorry you had to get a little dirty in the show, Ruby, but anyways! I'll leave you two to your dinner, you little lovedoves, heh. Don't forget to call!>"
[Giving the two a final handshake and informal hug, Clarance trots off after the rest of his group.]
Cheren: [Cheren agreed, letting out a cackle as Ruby took back his jacket. He crossed his arms and smiled genuinely--there wasn't any doubt that he was impressed.] <He sure is something. At this rate, I'd be surprised if there was something he couldn't do.> [He laughed along.] <Oh, I'll be sure about that.>
<But--just--wow, Clarance.> [He wasn't going to let his new acquaintance go without praise. Clarance was modest, but he deserved to be proud of himself.] <The school made the right choice in accepting you. You have a natural gift and I hope that you'll get far in your endeavors.>
[Although he was caught off-guard by the hug, Cheren patted him on the back and gave a two-fingered wave as he left. Even as he looked back at Ruby, he was still smiling--probably more than usual. He dusted off Ruby's shoulder, and offered his hand.] <Pfft. 'Lovedoves'.> [He shook his head.] <Your friends are almost as charming as you.>
ruby: [Still a little out of breath from the whole routine, he let out an exasperated chuckle. As Clarance and Cheren spoke, he shook his head, trying to wave the red from his face, from either embarrassment or from shortness of breath. The days of the two performing together were refreshed in his memory now, the thrill entirely different from Coordinating or modeling. But it was still just a hobby to Ruby-- for Clarance, dance was his everything. Maybe he owed it to Clarance to at least keep from getting rusty.] <Take care, Clarance. We'll find you later, okay?>
<Pfft. I'm still absolutely /adorable/ though, right?> [Ruby snickers, taking Cheren's hand and giving him a slight shove with his shoulder as they advanced back to their table.] <Is that what it's like when I force you to do something uncomfortable? Trust me, that was absolutely terrifying, heh.>
Cheren: [He sighed, rolling his eyes at him, but his happy demeanor did not deter. He "innocently" shoved Ruby back before they reached the sea of tables.] <Yes, you are adorable.> [He then went off in saying it in a few different languages (having looked them up prior in preparation for something else), including the two dialects of Chinese he knew. He looked back at him, slightly smirking, letting go of his hand as they got back to their seats.] <Oh, I'm sure it's something like that. But you didn't seemed to show it that much while you were performing.>
ruby: [He raises a curious eyebrow at Cheren as he mumbles to himself in unintelligibles, but doesn't bother to inquire. As they take their seats, the waiter returns with their dishes, setting down Cheren's roast lamb and a colorful assembly around a filet of salmon in front of Ruby, before taking a quick leave.] <Please. It's entirely different when you haven't prepared for it in the least! Times like those are absolutely paralyzing. [He shook his head, chuckling.] <I was rememebering everything on the fly, it was absoutely ridiculous. I'm glad that I didn't seem out of place, then?>
Cheren: [Ah, just in time for their main course. Cheren thanked the waiter as he placed his napkin on his lap.] <Nope, not at all. Seems like the body remembers what the mind may forget. Muscle memory?> [Cutting into his roast lamb, he remembered something else. <Hm... I guess that means I should tell you something now... Granted, it's not much time left, but it's still enough time to prepare--I hope.>
ruby: <Yes, I suppose. I was positively shaking from the shock all the while, at how my body inherently knew what to do, pfft. Clarance made a soldier our of me, heh.> [He spins a fork and picks at his food, taking a bite. The bite of spice takes him by surprise.] <Tell me what...? Is it something dire, has something happened? You didn't get a call from Sird or something, did you?>
Cheren: <No, no.> [He tasted a piece of the lamb first before answering. It had been a while since he had it, but its distinct flavor was unmistakeable.] <Consider it a part of your birthday gift. I signed you and Hikari up for a double contest together at the last minute. It should be tomorrow, at noon.>
ruby: [The words take a moment to register in his head. A double contest? With Hikari... and in France, of all places...!!] <Really? Are you serious? That's... brilliant, heh.> [Images of him and Hikari on stage together reel through his mind; it was something they've always talked about, but never quite got around to doing.] <W-wait! We've barely a day to prepare! Is she aware of this?!> [He nearly stands from his realization, suddenly apprehensive about the entire ordeal.]
Cheren: [He chuckles, motioning for him to take a seat.] <Sit back down, silly. I thought I'd tell her before she scurried away with your other friends. Sorry I waited a while to tell you, but it was a last-minute decision on my part, too. I already paid for the registration fees and filled out the paperwork. They mentioned that you may change your team from what is written down tomorrow during sign-ins, but I went with with what I could remember from contests pasts.>
ruby: [He... takes his seat again, disbelief still written across his face. He doesn't even try to regain his composure, half laughing.] <You're unbelievable. I can't believe you.>
Cheren: <I know.> [He rests his chin on a hand.] <But a prince and princess deserve the best, don't they?> [He snorted, and resumed eating.] Don't even answer that.
ruby: [He lifts his for absentmindedly, head too preoccipied for tomorrow to concentrate as he vacantly eats. After a few moments of gestating the idea, he looks to Cheren, giving him a slight kick beneath the table.] <Hey.>
Cheren: !!! <What?!>
ruby: Thank you.
ruby: [He takes a casual sip from his glass, and resumes finishing up his food.]
Cheren: ... Heh. [He looks down at his plate, resuming.] You're welcome.
ruby: [As they finish up their food, the waiter returns the clear their dishes. Upon his return, he asks how the meal was, offers the pair another bottle of champagne, maybe some dessert?] <It was lovely, thank you-- ah, well, how about it? In the mood for a little something extra?>
Cheren: <Mm. I'm fine> [Cheren raised his glass to his lips, finishing the remainder of the champagne he had left.] <You?>
ruby: [He gives the waiter his card, thanking him anyways.] <We're fine, thank you. The meal was fantastic, yes... okay, thank you.>
Cheren: <... Wait. How much was the bill anyway.> [He straightened in his chair. Despite the fact that this was supposed to be a date, it seemed off to have the the birthday celebrant pay for the evening.]
ruby: [He shrugs, taking another sip from his glass. It was a bit of a challenge, considering the height of the flume.] <Don't worry about it, it's fine.>
Cheren: ... [Sigh.] <If you say so. Thank you.>
ruby: [He finishes his drink, then looks out into the sky. It was getting fairly dark, and building were beginning to switch on their lights.] <It's fine, I can take care of it. So, shall we be going?>
Cheren: [Cheren nodded and got up.] <Sure. Let's go.>
ruby: [Pulling on his coat, he replaces the gloves to his hands and begins walking, keeping his hands in his pockets for warmth.] <You don't happen to be in the mood for more, say, sky diving, do you?>
Cheren: <Pfft. Not at this hour. Why? Still looking for a thrill? I thought you'd be tired by now.>
ruby: <Pfft, I'm exhausted. I can't even assume and sort of resentment at Clarance though, he's too good. Heh.>
Cheren: <Heh. I'm glad we ran into him today. Seems like you made good company while you were last here.>
ruby: <Heh, more or less. I could tell that Laurant was rubbing you the wrong way the other day.>
Cheren: ...................... [Twitch.]
ruby: <See? You didn't have to put up a farce for me, silly. It was written fairly plainly across your face, for that matter. At least, for me.>
Cheren: [He closed his eyes for a moment, sighing deeply.] Do we really have to talk about him.
ruby: <Sorry, sorry.> [He sneaks his hand into Cheren's coat pocket.] <We got it out of the way anyways. Don't let him get under your skin.>
Cheren: ... [He swats Ruby's hand out of his pocket and holds it instead, all the while looking away.] Fine. I'll be good.
ruby: [He rolls his eyes, muffling his chuckle into his scarf.] Atta boy.
Cheren: Tch. Well, aside from /him/, I don't have much of a problem with your friends. They're quite a colorful bunch. ... I wonder how Hikari's doing with them, actually.
ruby: I'm not sure of the rest of them, but if anything, Elise is probably taking care of her.
Cheren: [He taps a finger on his chin, remembering her among the group.] Heh. There's something rather calming about Elise, now that I think about it. [As they reached the hotel, the doorman greeted them back. Cheren nodded at him as they walked in.]
ruby: She's a delight, isn't she? The most grounded person I know, next to Mr. Stone. She and Clarance are a great pair-- oh, curses, I wonder if they've gotten together yet, I've forgotten to ask. They'd be cute, wouldn't they? [He pushes the button to summon the elevator.]
Cheren: Wait a minute, them? ... Although I don't know them all that well, they seem compatible.
Cheren: [The elevator arrived quickly with a ding. A couple of people filed out--Cheren held the door for them before they walked in.]
ruby: I'm not even sure of them myself, but when they're together, they're particularly close. They can glance at each other, and you get the sensation they're having a wordless conversation.
ruby: [After stepping into the elevator, he pushes their floor number, leaning on the walls of the car as they ascend. ... At the thought, he gave Cheren a look. Hm.]
Cheren: Heh. Is that so. [He smiled faintly, though he didn't particularly have anything more to say. He wave of tiredness seemed to hit him, keeping him from thinking of words. ... After a moment, though, he noticed Ruby looking at him when he glanced back.]
ruby: [Ruby eyed the floor ticker; they still had time. In a swift movement, he slipped the scarf from around his own neck and pulled it around Cheren's, roping him in, their lips lightly touching.]
Cheren: [Hm--? ... Heh. He slipped arms around his waist and tilted his head slightly, parting his lips with his own.]
ruby: [With one hand letting go of the scarf, he grabs hold of Cheren's collar, the other slung around his neck.]
Cheren: [He held him tighter, vaguely aware of the elevator floors ticking by. They would hit their floor soon.]
ruby: [He squeezes him a little tighter, before breaking away at the signal of the elevator's arrival.]
