DDRC Healthcare at the UHMS Conference in the USA
DDRC Healthcare's CEO and Research Director, Dr Gary Smerdon, recently flew to Orlando in the USA to attend the 46th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). He was accompanied by our well-known and well-respected Researcher, Margerite St Leger-Dowse, who has been involved with DDRC since its inception in 1980.
The UHMS meeting is the main international conference of the year providing the opportunity for clinicians, researchers, and all the disciplines of the hyperbaric environment to come together. This year over 400 delegates attended from Europe, Australasia, Japan, China, and the North and South Americas, with representatives from both military and civilian areas of diving, hyperbaric medicine, and research. Exhibitors included chamber manufacturers, publishers, and suppliers of medical systems and instruments.
Altogether 116 papers and posters were presented in addition to plenary sessions. Information and results presented ranged from clinical trials of hyperbaric medicine to studies of diving physiology. Conferences always provide an opportunity for developing projects and collaborations and this event proved as fruitful as ever in this respect.

Marguerite was joined by Caroline Fife for some of the time on the “Best Publishing” book stand signing special limited edition copies of the book that they co-edited, “Women and Pressure: Diving and Altitude”.
Caroline Fife will be coming to the UK in November to speak at the British Hyperbaric Association (BHA) Annual Scientific Meeting which is being hosted by DDRC Healthcare in Plymouth. Further details of this event can be found on the DDRC Healthcare website.
