Day203: Pasties (rhymes with nasty but doesn’t taste it). We had a Harry Potter-themed dinner a couple months ago, and for some reason I got it in my head we should do pot pies or pasties, but then needed something last minute so we used Hot Pockets.🙈(Note: They were a lot worse than I remembered them from my college days.) Fast forward to last night, when my son’s 3rd grade teacher is coming for dinner and he really. wants. pasties. 👀 Y’all, I just couldn’t do Hot Pockets to her. So I pulled out the phyllo dough and MS roast (Day 10). I let the frozen dough thaw on the counter for 30min, cut it in quarters, put cut-up roast in the middle of each square, rubbed water on 2 adjacent edges of each square, folded the squares diagonally, and used the watery edge to fold up over the edge coming to meet it. (The water works like not-very-sticky glue.) I brushed raw egg over them and popped them in a 400 oven for about 20ish min. Everyone ate 2, but I thought the dough lacked flavor so next time might brush butter or sprinkle salt on the outside — or use Pillsbury crescent dough which has both. Still, a decent variation on my chicken bundles, a poor man’s Beef Wellington, and a VAST improvement over our previous “pasties.”☺️ #pasties #easydinners #UKcuisine #its5oclockmom
